Nolle------the article didn't say anything about how the low income kids ended up in private school. I would like to think that their parents busted their butts to be able to get their kids in those schools----and if they did, they would bust their kids butts to make sure they did well. However, just thought of another way they could have gotten in private schools. A lot of religious based schools have scholarship funds for members of their church that can't afford tuition to their school.

  1. I do find these results hard to believe, especially if they say they targeted low income students.  In my experience, the private schools did way better whereas the public schools not so much.  Still, there are some excellent public schools out there, but I doubt enough to bring the rest up.

  2. I agree. It's bull c**p. And honestly - I think a regular kid would have MORE difficulty in a private school because majority of the kids in there are sent by their parents because they're lil criminals and their parents think it'll "change" them.

Plus, teachers are paid less in private schools. Unhappy teachers = bad teachers

    Blah!

  3. Not all private schools have a better quality of education.

I personally attended a private school that focused way more on religion than education. and my ex went to a private school that focused entirely on sports.

The quality of education depends on a lot of things and the private/ public debate is not enough to do an accurate study without considering other factors, like region, educational requirements of the teachers, etc.

  4. I believe that it is possible for a student to acknowlege their surroundings and decide they will work harder to have academic success. It's not hard to believe at all.
