Does anyone really think Prince Harry was in danger in Afghanistan?

Do you really think any sane officer, or member of the British High Command would have allowed Harry to patrol in a dangerous area? Who in their right minds would like to be responsible for a Royal dying in combat? Imagine telling your commanding officer, or being the officer that has to tell the Queen. There's no way he was in any danger. He probably was sent to patrol areas known to be safe all the time(but probably not known as safe to him).

People are commending him for serving, but I think he just wanted to take his Xbox games a step further to the real deal.

  1. Yup, you're right. Though Harry practically insisted on being put in harm's way (else he would quit the army), pops and grandma most likely pulled some strings with army high brass and made some "subtle" adjustments to his posting.

But, being in Afghanistan (kudos to you for spelling it right, unlike MANY recent askers) is inherently dangerous. You're taking big time chances ... kinda like driving through inner-city high-crime area in a convertible while wearing a big shiny Rolex and a short sleeve shirt so you can show it off to all the haters packing urban jewelry by Glock. Some BIG kahonas required.

  2. sometimes the danger finds you.

  3. they said it was a threat to him particularly because if anyone were to find out his exact whereabouts, they would target that area. putting him and those around him in more danger than usual.

  4. Helmand province isn't a picnic, so he wasn't posted in some quiet and isolated place where there is no fighting.

I read some place that at one point he was in a base about 500 metres from Taliban positions.

Apparently they're going to let the Royal family serve in the Navy though. Less danger there.

  5. Just a suggestion but why don't you volunteer to go where he was for 10 weeks. Then when you come back you will be qualified to say which areas are "safe".

  6. Blame the idiot paparazzi Drudge!

There is nothing wrong  with a person willing to serve his country in harms way, Royalty or not!

  7. i think they are right but the xbox game uhm no i don't think he wanted to take his xbox games a step further but he did say they are like that but no it wasn't about taking it a step further

  8. Yes, I think Prince Harry would definately be a target.

There seems to be some bitterness and jealousy expressed here.

  9. Harry could have been captured or killed by Taliban forces  that didn't recognize who he was.

Once captured, he would have been an invaluable propaganda tool.

It was a foolish stunt to pull to satisfy a young man's whims.

  10. Not at all.  I have a hard time believing that he would've been allowed to be in harms' way.

  11. I think anybody in that area is in imminent danger, no matter what their position.  It's a WAR ZONE!  WAR means danger.

I think Harry just wanted to actually get out there and do something REAL for a change, knowing that he would be in danger, and not caring, because maybe, for 10 weeks out of his life, he could actually BE REAL,  like a normal person, hanging with his mates, and living a life.  I don't think he realy gets that much in the palace.

Everybody sees all the money they think the royal family has, and thinks it's all fairy tales and beauty and happily ever after, and nobody realizes what a screwed up life the roylas have to live.  Here are these people, flesh and blood, with all the same needs as any others, and they are put on display and shown off to the world.  Their lives are a big fishbowl, and they can't do anything right according to the press, and then Harry tries to actually leave that behind, so he can maybe have a tiny slice of what the rest of us take for granted, and look where it gets him.

Poor kid has had it pretty rough, you know, and he's screwed up.  A bunch.  But let's all just cut him a little slack.  Take into account his messed up family, and the way he's trying to fix it up, and let him live a real life for a change.

  12. Probably not until the press released his whereabouts.

  13. It is dangerous to be in Afganistan period.  He by no means had the most dangerous job over there but the risk was real.
