  1. well if u want a hamster get one.. but make sure that you clean its cage it gets the whole room stuffy, and at first it sleeps a lot!! soo dont mess with it. also dont forget the water theyll die

  2. sprinkle baking soda after you finish cleaning the cage so it wont smell. hamsters are great pets they die in 2-3 years so you cant get bored of them and they are soo cute! they are smart too.

  3. Hamsters are wonderful cute pets they might be a bit nappy for the first week or 2 but they will get used to you the best of luck for you

  4. they're fine as soon as you teach them to not bite which only takes a fews days

  5. Try to get one from a breeder.  The ones at the pet stores are pretty much inbred.  They will snap and go nuts eventually, and are a lot more likely to get sick and die young.

Get a book called hamsters for dummies.  READ THE WHOLE THING.  Make sure they are the pet for you.

Give the raw potato to help prevent (and cure) wet tail (which is like a severe diariah that leads to death).

Only have one in cage at a time.  The exception of that is for breeding, but you don't want more than one in a living space.

Do not use a glass tank.  It doesn't allow for proper ventilation.  Their respiratory systems are very sensitive.  Get a wire one, but make sure their head can't fit thru the bars.

Line the cage with newspaper, but put the newspaper in the microwave first to seal the ink.  Do not use cedar or that green bedding.  Use pine, it's ok, or even shredded newspaper (microwaved to seal the ink).  Some even use shredded scrap papers.  I used shredded newspapers for my rats.

There is a lot more... just read that book.  It should help.

  6. Hamsters are not as bad as they sound. I prefer dwarf hamsters just because they are less messy but  hamsters are generally good pets.

Dwarf hamsters are very friendly but if you have your heart set on another breed thats fine too.

    Good Luck (:

  7. I have had a lot of hamsters in my lifetime and I love them!! Getting a young hamster is what you need! Never ever get an old hamster. I would recommend getting a boy hamster. They are calm and they don't have mood swings like girls do.  I also recommend not hold your hamster for a day, so it can get use to its surroundings. Also if you want to get a girl you can,but i like boys a lot better. A glass tank is good. Make sure you clean you hamsters cage at least twice a month, other wise it will stink up your room! I don't think your parents would like that my parents sure didn't! Ha-ha!

Also you need to get him/her a ball for her to exercise everyday. When you feed him/her fill him/her bowl all the way not over flowing. Every now and again I like getting my hamster treats. Just go to your local Walmart and get every thing you need there, but get your hamster at a pet store.

I would also recommend getting a golden hamster if they have one or a dwarf hamster would be good. I have a hamster named Rocky i have had him for a year. He is very sweet. if your hamster ever gets sick don't take it to vet. They don't specialize in hamsters..... I wish they did... Well that isn't they point. Don't hold your hamster if you have a cold. Because that can get them sick and they could die.

I think thats all the info you need.

    Hope this helps,

  8. I'd recommend hamsters as pets, I had a mammy, daddy and 8 babies and they were great, I have 3 left now(they dont generally have  long life spans). All u need to know is that they can not live as a family or a couple, they must be kept in seperate cages because the will fight till the death and incest means nothing in hamster world :) as long as you keep they're cages clean and they always have food and water they will be good, try give something to do like their wheel or something that they can chew on coz hamsters teeth never stop growing so if they arnt kept chewing they will grow and grow. Once you get them home always b gentle with them and hadle them regularly so that they can get used to being handled and let them sleep when they are sleeping during the day coz they can sometime be a bit grumpy, they will play with you all night once they wake up natrully but apart from they they are cool!!!!
