I can vaguely remember reading about it but am unsure if I dreamt it or not.The Aussie rules have an ovoid ball and the Gaelic version a round ball, I also think the rules are different (enlighten me).Was it like the series of league v union we had a few years back with Wigan v Bath where they played one game each of each other's code?(THAT was very interesting).

Or was it a hybrid of both games.

Help!! I can't be the only one here who remembers this surely!

Thanks cobbers.(By the way I'm not a Pom, I'm Welsh.)

  1. Yeah they played it up until last year, when the Aussies punched the Guinness out of those Irish fellows,Now the Irish have cancelled any future series-soft as butter them blokes from the emerald isle.

  2. At the end of the Gaelic championship a committe picks the best 15 players of the year. The Aussie's do the same from their championship. The two teams then play a game called  international rules football, Were they have a cross between the two games picking out rules from both games.  You must remember that gaelic games are an amatuter sport and the players dont get paid and have to work full time jobs. But the Aussies are pro's and train every day for big money.  Its more of a family day out to watch the international rules, it is not taken that seriously although every year you are grananteed a mass brawl on the pitch!!

The Ball is changed to a round one.

    There is No goal keeper

You can take six steps with the ball and then you can bounce it and keep running kick or fist it.

There are alot of wee changes but the players can adapt very easily into them.

It takes place in october every year.

  3. Hey, its kinda like the Ashes of AFL/Gaelic Football. The changes to AFL are:

The Ball is changed to a round one.

    There is No goal keeper

You can take six steps with the ball and then you can bounce it and keep running kick or fist it.

There are alot of small changes but the players can adapt very easily into them.

It takes place in october every year.

  4. Well I was going to answer you but as I'm English an you cant even say Prisoner Of Mother England POME correctly I feel disinclined to acquiesce to your request!!! Lol, only joking, yes I do remember its a hybrid of the two games, I can't remember all the rules though, a lot of people reckon the Aussie rules football is a descendant from the games played by the convicts way back in the day, but woe betide you trying to have that conversation with an Australian. Come to think of it they've been doing it for more than a few years, more like decades isn't it???

A very famous Aussie rules player called Modra (not sure if I spelt that right) is actually Gaelic for dog, he's very popular in the sport an well tasty on the pitch, but I'm going back a few years now. I'm sure you could look up the exact rules on the net somewhere, there's differences in points an paces whilst bouncing the ball from what I can remember, traditional Gaelic you bounce so many times then must pass or kick the ball, all be it to yourself in like a little tap, its been a while.

  5. It's actually a hybrid of both games. It's called international rules footbal and we usually have a tourney every year.
