Does anyone remember the following sci-fi show...?

Ok, so I have this really vague recollection of a scifi TV show when I was a kid (mid 80's)...

All I remember was there was this typical american family being pursued across a desert in a motorhome by some sort of police, who's head guy may or may not have been a robot/android. I think it was set in the future or an alternate universe or something as I'm pretty sure the family was from 80's america and got transported into this sci-fi land.

Does anyone remember anything like this or can tell me what it was?
