They had great burgers made to order!

I for one have always been sad since they closed their chain of fast food places. They closed the one in my town in 1983 or so.

  1. There's an A&W still open on Route 44 in Smithfield RI. They don't have car hops anymore, but if you go on a Tuesday night (weather permitting) you can check out classic cars and hot rods while you're chowing down on your burger and fries.

The one where I grew up (with the full service drive up) closed in the mid '70s, right around the same time McDonalds started popping up every 1/2 mile or so...

  2. There's a few of them out here in Oregon, also with the drive-in as Stevie B said.  They're usually in the same small towns that have the obligatory rural sized Dairy Queen.  I think they still still exist as Sonic really has not penetrated the Northwest yet as it has in many other parts of the country.

  3. They still have them, When I traveled across the US there was one in Colorado, The A&W was awsome and I dont like rootbeer that much....their burgurs are pretty tasty too..

  4. They still exist.  My girlfriend and I go there occasionally and they still serve root beer in frosted glass mugs.  See what's near you at www.awrestaurants.com.

  5. 25 cent coney dogs on Tuesday nights!

Give me 2 coney dogs, onion rings, and a root beer float and I'm good to go.  They still have one near Racine, Wisconsin that has the actual drive-in.

  6. I certainly do remember that. Didn't they have great root beer floats?

  7. We have one here. Its great! I love the rootbeer too!

  8. Wow I didn't know they had even closed any down. The one in my small hometown (Huntington, Wv) Still exist. I love their root beer floats

  9. Wow, I didn't even realize they made burgers at one point, all I've ever heard of was the root beer.

  10. Yeah I used to go when I was little. They had phones in the booths to order from, and I always got a tiny mug of root beer and a burger, lol. I am not sure when they closed ours down, but I was young when it happened.

  11. i sure did the girl's would come out on roller skates and take you order and allot of hot rod's would hang out there, the good old day's gone but not forgotten.

  12. They still exist.  There is one in Orland Park, IL 60462(158th and La Grange).  They have to have other locations, but I have never even been to one, so who knows if they are as good as they used to be...

  13. hung out there every friday nite, it was a great place to hang out, I loved there shakes.  And well.... lets say it was also a great place to purchase more than burgers..lol

there is one left that I know of in Wisc. right outside of Lake Geneva, which I really dont think is part of the original chain, but maybe they bought out the T.M. if thats possible...

  14. They have one a few miles away from me in Michigan

  15. They are still around in some places!!!  Yes they are wonderful!!

  16. I remember! They had the best tasting Root Beer back then! It's not the same anymore...
