I'm not that old but I can remember when gas was like less then a dollar and when I thought $20.00 was a lot to fill up my tank of gas. What's so unbelievable is that we just keep feeding into it. Everyone is still lined up at the gas pumps, pumping away. We're creating our own problems, you know?!?

  1. seems like it was 1989-1990.  about the time i was getting out of highschool.  i remember being able to afford about 5 gallons of gas to cruise on for a couple of nights.

JayP.. 1 liter = 0.264172052 US gallons.  you're paying a LOT for gas

    Well Said Terry!

  6. i can remember when gas was less than 50 cents

  7. I remember when I was a kid in 76... gas was 89 cents a gallon.... 3 years ago or so gas was still 1.15 or so a gallon... George Bush and the republicans... thats who we owe it to... did you know the Bush family is an oil family? he owned an oil company and his pals are oil peeps... Cheney is an oil peep... talk about confounded interests..... did you know that if we were to allow offshore drilling by oil companies in Alaska and CA it would take 20 years for you to see a diffrence in gas at the pump... and it would be less than 5 cents??? did you know that oil companies have millions of untapped gas resources... they get the oil from the gov then they dont touch it and count it as a resource and make their stock more valuable? Did you know... that if we allowed offshore drilling, we would just be giving away public resources to oil companies... when was the last time you got  millions of dollars worth of anything from them? why should we GIVE away OUR resources... bah! its all a bunch of c**p...

Have you ever heard of "Prohibition"?  It was a period of time in the 20's when alcoholic beverages were illegal.

Do you know why a bunch of drunks in Congress passed a law outlawing alcoholic beverages?

John D. Rockefellar (big oil) wanted it passed because alcohol had always competed with gasoline as a fuel for cars.  With prohibition the law of the land, the FBI arrested anyone producing alcohol for any reason.  Confiscated or destroyed their equipment too.

Farmers all had stills to produce alcohol to run their tractors and delivery trucks.  Farmers have always been very self-sufficient industrious folks.

Prohibition consolidated the monopoly for oil products as the sole fuel for all cars and trucks made.

Now we have sky-high fuel prices.  Why?  Because (once again) government working with big oil has placed vast oil reserves off limits to drilling, and has made it so impossible to build refineries in the US we are captive to foreign oil sources (that are all owned, operated or controlled by the same handful of oil companies).

I call it "ruthless capitalism".  Capitalism isn't bad if business is conducted by moral and ethical people.  To some, profit is the goal, and the means can take any form, even if people die.

Here's a quote from Thomas Jefferson in reference to a Central Bank:

"The modern theory of the perpetuation of debt has drenched the earth with blood, and crushed its inhabitants under burdens ever accumulating." -- Thomas Jefferson

He knew what happens when profit becomes God.  Jesus did to when he said that the love of money is the root of all evil.
