Does anyone remember when petrol was 3/6p a gallon?

I remember driving from Kent to Devon in 1976 and it cost me nearly £12 to do the round trip!! With petrol now at over £5 a gallon, those were the days eh?

Can't remember the petrol but I do remember serving a pint of Special at 11d a pint of ordinary at 10d and a pint of mixed at 10&1/2d. Also 4 0z. corned beef for 2bob. My dad complained when the ordinary went up to 11d said it should only have gone up 1/2d he said the brewery's wanted taken to court.

6 gallon tank in van

less than 2 quid to fill her up

I remember it being 4/3p a gallon when I first started work and sold it. mind you you could get a penny arrow bar then

i had a jag mk10 2x10 gallon tanks cost £15-£17 to fill up and only did about 8 to a gallon was a truck driver at the time wage about £60-£100 aweek fill truck up £25 50 gallons derv now not got money to fill up lawn mower

I can certainly remember travelling from London to my friends pad in Cambridge and return every weekend - would have been about 1970. I had a Triumph Herald 12/50 and a quids worth of fuel lasted the weekend.

I remember filling my mums mini up to the gunnels for £1 that was in 1960. I must be older than you...so there.

Passed my test in 1961 and I remember with great delight the enjoyment of just driving without the financial challenge that now confronts us. The snag is fuel is now escalating and the fun has gone for many of us. It is the Chinese and Indians who are flexing their financial muscles and the demand for oil is outstripping supply.
