Does anyone sand their golf grips to keep them tacky?

I remember reading a while back that some PGA Tour pros sand their golf grips to keep them in shape. But, I can't remember exactly how they said they do it.

  1. No, just change them more often. And as was posted earlier, try full-cords.

  2. Try using full cord grips - especially if you live in a tropical enviroment. They take a bit of getting used to - they tear the skin on your hands until the skin hardens and becomes calloused.

  3. Maybe back when they used leather grips, but this would not be a good idea with today's rubber-like grips. The best thing to do is to wipe them with a moist (not wet) towel and allow them to dry.

I sand my grips about three times a year. It's pretty easy, just take a square of gritty sandpaper, and work it up and down the grip....you'll want to do it over a trash can or outside because it kind of makes a mess.

Then immediately after sanding the grips wash them with dish washing soap and scrub them with a nylon brush.

They'll feel like new for a few rounds....touch them up weekly with the nylong brush and the soap....your grips will last a LOT longer if you follow this procedure.

    Good Luck!

  5. I find that washing them with dish soap and a soft brush gets the dirt and grime out and makes them tacky again.  Sanding would remove more grip material which I don't think you really want to do as the grips wear.
