We have been planning a green home and will begin construction soon. Through our exhaustive research to go green, we can not seem to find a builder or manufacturer that addresses conservation, sustainability, or energy efficiency.

  1. Actually yes there are green pools out there, I just don't have the link.  On the show Living Like Ed, they showed a pool that did not use chlorine or any chemical in it.  To filter/clean the water some sort of a UV device was in the pool at one end, (I think it was hidden)  and the water would pass over it and it would clean it without using chemicals.  I would call your local pool companies to see if you can get this for your pool, because the chlorine is really bad.  Sorry I don't have a link about it.

  2. I'm sorry but no pool is green, your going to be continually wasting water no matter what.

  3. A green swimming pool would be called a "pond". Sorry. There is no such thing as a "green" pool. It's very energy-wasteful, the water evaporates so that you have to add water periodically, chlorine keeps it clean, while concrete, the only material strong enough to handle the weight, is not sustainable. There are ways to use solar for the motor and to heat it but that's still not going to make it sustainable.

Seriously, if you have any water source, even a little stream or spring on your property, consider building a pond. Google "permaculture + pond".

  4. If you want a green swimming pool, just don't use chlorine or anything to kill the algae!

though, all pool liners are going to be made of chlorinated plastics.

You can, however get solar heaters for your pool. It's just a simple series of thin black tubes which absorb the sun's radiation rather than using an electric or gas heater.
