  1. natural global warming exists.

    Anthropogenic global warming does not.

The natural forces will always be stronger than us.

  2. I think the evidence exists to show that warming exist now.  It is hard to deny the facts.  I haven't seen a recent scientific paper that says warming is not a problem.  The scientists are trying to more accurately figure out what proportions are caused by what activities.  The non-scientist deniers are still saying the sun is hot (I think most scientist understand this in great detail!), it's a natural cycle (no kidding! Remember, it is the scientists that brought you this information 100 years ago!)  The other thing they tend to do is suggest there is a giant conspiracy between all government agencies, international organizations, educational institutions, and every scientist that supports the theory (most of them) to get money by cooking up so wild scheme.  Only Fox news, conservative talk show host, and Oil/Gas industry-sponsored websites are telling the truth.  I probably shouldn't pick on Fox news because I haven't seen anything about GW on it.  I'm just guessing.

People who seriously look at the scientific information available, look at what the outcomes possible outcomes and think for themselves are typically convinced it is a problem that we should at least plan to take baby-steps towards solving. Even if they aren't 100% convinced GW is occurring, the easy steps to take won't cost much (maybe even offset cost on energy savings), reduce our dependency on foreign oil, and reduce pollution overall.  Most want to do more than baby steps. I think many companies are acting anyway it makes so much sense (Duke Power, Insurance companies like Lloyds of London). The risks are that high.

  3. Is there global warming? Better question... are there temperature cycles that are initiated by the solar output of the sun? Yes.

Does man effect it... significantly? No.

  4. I'm no scientist and I havent done in any research myself. But listening to the pundits, it seems many people including scientists dont believe it.  So it is hard to be convinced of its existence when so many dont believe it.  It doesnt help when Al Gore is a major spokesperson.  He doesnt have any credibility with many people.

  5. Some don't believe it exists, but it does : http://www.newscientist.com/data/images/... However, it's not caused by us : http://tamino.files.wordpress.com/2007/0... Here's a graph showing solar output, starting from now, and ending about 1200 years ago. Temperature causes CO2 to rise, not the other way round. Also, look at this petition, 17,800 of them have been indepently verified : http://www.oism.org/pproject/s33p357.htm

  6. *raise hand*

I don't believe that there is enough data to support the theory of global warming.  Most of the people that believe in global warming also believe that the earth has been in exsistance for millions of years.  How then can you base any theory off of just a hundred even a thousand years of data?  You can't.

The truth is volcanos and naturally forming gas emitters have been polluting our atmosphere long before and at a far greater rate than humans ever have.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't recycle or try to find ways to reduce pollution because pollution does far more damage to humans than it does to the earth at the moment.  The chemicals in the air can cause cancer, miscarriage, still birth, birth defects and more.

  7. I don't think anyone is doubting that some form of global warming or climate change exists.  The big questions for the general public are primarily if humans have caused it, the impact of climate change on human society, and if humans have any ability to stop global climate change.  Most of those questions have answers, but they aren't the answers people want to hear.

Among climatologists, there is an unanimous consensus that climate change is happening and humans have played a significant part in casuing this.  Although there are outliers and technicalities that can be nitpicked, among experts in the field this is considered as much of a fact as evolution is among biologists, or that the earth revolves around the sun is among astronomers.  The debate only gets muddled once you leave the realm of experts and start asking other questions that the science isn't quite ready to answer or shouldn't need to answer.  Mainly, political questions.

The main question though is how much of an impact have humans had on global warming?  We can tell by observing the sun and observing the temperatures in the rest of the solar system that the sun has not significantly increased it's output and the other planets are not seeing changes in termperature the earth is.  We can also tell that CO2 levels have risen at unprecedented levels in correlation with human civilization and it's an unarguable fact that CO2 is a greenhouse gas.  Most people have no grasp of the concepts of feedback loops or large scale systems like climate / weather or ocean currents though, so they ignore this 'smoking gun'.

A hundred and fifty years ago, Americans thought the endless flocks of Passenger Pigeons, herds of Buffalo, or whales could never be dented by hunting.  Fifty years ago people thought that dumping raw sewage, toxic waste, and garbage into rivers, lakes, and the ocean wasn't a problem because they could absorb anything we could dump into them.

You can't walk out and say 'yup, climate change is happening' as easily as you can realize lakes and streams are unusable because of toxic pollution.  There aren't whalers coming back and saying 'we couldn't find any whales' or hunters not being able to find any buffalo.  Weather is already variable, and most people won't accept change until it hits them right in the face.

Between that, the amount of pressure against the legitimate scientists and climatologists, and the politicizing of a straightforward scientific issue it's not surprising that some people doubt climate change completely.  When you hear punduits who are making millions of dollars a year accuse scientists of working people up over nothing for the 'big research grant money', you know that things are going to get much worse before they get much better.

I don't think there is anything more telling then the fact that the 'worst case' predictions of five - ten years ago aren't as bad as what we are seeing right now.  Climatology is an inexact science, but we're seeing what was expected to take 15 or 20 years happen in 5-7 years.

  8. If what you want is a consensus of 'deniers' ,you got one! Except for me!

This is called Yahoo Answers, not Yahoo Opinions!

I could easily ask for opinions on how to cook a chicken. But when it comes to scientific data and studies, opinions are irrelevant!  Either you understand it ,or you don't. If you don't understand the proof of what humans are doing to the Earth,so what? Beliefs are for religions, not for science! If everybody didn't 'believe' in the "Theory of Gravity",would it cease to work, and they would just start floating away? NO! So what does it matter if ignorant people ever 'believe' what science has proven?

  9. It's not an a opinion really. Global warming DOESN'T exist. It can be scientifically proved. We've always had wholes in the ozone, and they fix theirselves. This is just the first time we've noticed, so we go insane over it. The icecaps arn't going to melt. Nobody is going to drown in some mass flood. It's just not true.

And if it were, we'd still probably live to tell the story. We'd have men living on the moon before all this is set to happen. We'd move on and go destroy another planet with our toxic waste.

  10. Yes, but the real question is does anyone seriously believe they can change the weather? Have you tried doing your global cooling dance?

  11. Of course it exists...how else would we have gotten out of the last Ice Age?

Edit (To oracle2world below):  The only people who make a point to differentiate between glaciation and ice age are those who make a living studying it and those who have self-esteem issues.  It's like looking at an approaching storm and telling everyone lightning actually originates from the ground and travels up...who cares??  Either way you better get off of the golf course.

  12. Ask anyone in NYC today if they believe the earth is warming at an insane rate. It's freakin' cold out!

  13. That isn't an issue.

The issue is whether we are causing it.  What we are doing to cause it.  Whether it's a big deal if we are.  Whether we can affect it anyway.

  14. Everyone agrees we have warmed out of the last extensive glaciation that ended 10,000 years ago.  We are still technically in an "ice age" as we speak.

No one can show that burning fossil fuels has contributed significantly to any rise in temperature over the last 150 years.

Simply put, our current climate is within the normal cycles and variance of previous climate cycles.

A better question would be how many people believe in the Book of Revelations, mankind is inherently evil, earth would be better off without people, etc.
