I'm consider getting Comcast Cable internet but I'm unsure if their service is any good. I heard that in the past they had a lot of problems with their wireless interenet. Are they a reliabl service?

  1. I have had Comcast since March of 2004.  I think their service has improved dramatically.  Our Internet has gone down far less times than it did the first year we had the service.

The biggest problem we had was with their phone service.  Between 3 months to a year ago, I was constantly unplugging our phone modem and plugging it back in.  I found out that is was a pair of misbehaving phones that we had that was cutting our service out.  This phone system right here works great with a digital voice service from Comcast: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

It operates on a totally different frequency than wifi does.  That brings me to another point, the wifi problems might be because the other people you heard from has wireless phones that operate on the same frequency band as their wifi does.  Anyway, this phone system shows you when you have voice mail on the LCD screen.  It will have a pictures of an envelope.  If you ever worked in an office, I am sure you have seen a similar thing when you have voice mail and the envelope.

The main thing is, if you have to switch from Qwest to Comcast for phone at all, you might have initial problems at first.  At our house, everything worked fine for about 4 months and all of the sudden we had no phone.  Comcast came out and fixed it for free.  Comcast told us Qwest did not do something right when we canceled our service from Qwest to Comcast phone.

Another problem we had was we were not able to connect more than 2 TVs to the service.  Usually you can connect up to about 4 until you need to amplify.  All I did was get Comcast to hookup an amplifier in the storage room where the electrical box it.  Now we can split it about 7 times before we get noticable picture quality reduction.

The bottom line is, all of these problems are fixable.  Most wifi problems are equipment you bought, and it could be interfereing with your wireless phone.  That is why I suggested the phone system above.

Another technology is called powerline.  Most people do not need wifi at all.  Check out this video: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7390_1-6274537-... click play to play the video.
