Does anyone take Paranormal Researchers seriously?

My uncle "employed" some ghost hunters to investigate a "haunted" apartment. He owns. These people brought in all their equipment and he has requested an on-going investigation, which they agreed to do. They've captured some EVPs which sounds like a dog growling and a male-ish voice sounds like it's saying "You die" and some cussing/foul language and some semi-explainable photos of shadows. I'm still not impressed.

No! - it is a total scam and the one who gets hurt will be your uncle!  The one who makes money is the ghost hunter!!!  Plus biblically the Bible says it is evil spirits doing all of this nonsense ........

I believe this stuff and I think we can describe them scientifically.  But as one answers said, most don't even conduct a consistent scientific experiments.  They don't even consider other factors that might cause stuff.

The Earth's magnetic field varies place to place.  With sensitive enough equipment you can see that.  Electric devices in your home have their own fields and stuff. Keeping that in mind, it would be pretty hard to verify ghosts and stuff just based on the fact you detected a change in the E&M field when tons of other things are to blame.

I think our current theories and technology cannot really observe and describe such phenomenon.  I wouldn't blame any decent scientist or engineer to risk their repuatition to make such attempts too.

In short, yeah they are scamming you Uncle. I don't take them seriously.  I bet most of these guys failed 7th grade science.

Yes, I do.

I do believe in UFO phenomena, and there are many proofs (although at the same time, there are many hoaxes).

The UFOs been seen by many reliable people/organization, from former president Jimmy Carter to commercial airline pilots and passingers- nearly 300 people at once.

Unprofessional behavior notwithstanding, the bad science employed by paranormal researchers (as reported in the paranormal journals I've read) is why I can't take them seriously. To their credit, some teams really try to take the scientific method seriously, but without fail the hypotheses they generate don't even come close to satisfying the scientific criteria for a valid hypothesis.

Even though I don't specifically believe in ghosts per say, I do believe there are some things that happen that scientists have not learned to measure and define yet.  These are the things people consider paranormal.  A hundred years ago, people would have considered cell phones paranormal.  As more research is done, more mysteries are revealed to us to be common things in science for the next generation.  

That said, there probably real paranormal researchers in the world of science who are really trying to understand unexplained happenings.  However, there are also a lot of cowboys out there claiming to be paranormal researchers who just rob people blind.
