  1. I have not been on a bus is must be more than 15 years.  I would love to take a bus, train, trolley, monorail or any sort of mass transportation IF it went from my house to close to where i want to go. When and where I want to go.  A long time ago most American city's had great mass transit systems, most everyone took mass transit to work and back, or to the store, and even some from city to city everyday.  BUT in the 1950's I believe General Motors and the Firestone company got together and sold the American people that buses was the way to go.  So GM sold the cities the buses and Firestone sold the cities the tires.  Soon millions or old trolley cars and what not were stacked up high and left to rot.  In the end the only ones who actually got a better deal was GM and Firestone..

  2. I take the bus even though I have a car.  It's pretty easy around here, there's no use burning up a bunch of expensive gas when you can get there by bus just as easily for $1 or so.

(I'm a student so I ride free too).

I also ride a bike when I can and walk alot.

My opinion is to each his own, but I try to stay as enviromentally friendly as possible.  We drive as little as possible at my house.

  3. Ya sometimes I take the bus, its not that bad here. It is really cheap and can potentially save you a lot of money. However, you do have to plan your day in advance and plan it around the times the bus arrives and departs. Other than that, it is not bad at all, I would recommend it. It may be weird at first, but it pays off once you see how much $$$ you save from not having to fill up your car all the time!

  4. well.

if everyone uses a car, it will do lots of pollution.

and in bus` they do pollution just like cars, except more people in it so its saves the world from pollution.

    sometimes i do.

  5. No, but I ride my bike instead of driving, even though I have a car.

  6. i have a car but i take the bus, petrol is way to expensive, i only drive at the weekend when i go out

  7. In the city I live in the bus is a good way to take your life into your own hands....lots of icky people there and the bus stop downtown is always calling the police so no I do not ride it

  8. I have a nice car and yet still really enjoy riding the bus! It saves money and allows me some extra time to relax while traveling. I think more people will start using public transit as fuel prices continue to rise.

  9. I have a car and use it all the time unless I need to go downtown.  Finding parking or paying for a ramp is definitely not worth it when I can pay a buck or two and spend a couple of minutes on the bus.  Plus if you enjoy people-watching or just talking to random people the bus can be pretty fun.

  10. I am what they call a 'Multi-modal Commuter". I Drive when the weather is foul, take the bus if I'm up early enough, and bicycle most of the time. My bike is just as fast as I don't get stuck in the traffic, plus it is a great way to keep in good shape. I don't go to a gym, I just bicycle. When I have meeting in Downtown (Fort Lauderdale), the $1.25 bus saves me from having to pay $2. per hour, but I buy a bus pass each month. I challenge everyone to use Mass Transit at least once a week to get to work, and it is preferable that the 5 days commute be out of your car. You'll save a lot on gas and insurance (let your company know you don't drive to work and you get a break). I love my car, a 2004 Prius, but I hate sitting in rush hour traffic. On the bus I listen to my podcasts, on my bike I zoom on by, and In the evening I dive wherever I want to go!

If everyone dropped the 5 day commute, just imagine the advantages, and the savings! Good luck!

  11. Even though I don't own a car, I know people who do that.  I believe that it is a very smart choice.  You save money, and help the earth all at once!

  12. Because gasoline is too expensive, I take the bus...

  13. A lot of people do this in the larger cities where the bus networks are comprehensive and convenient, mostly European and Asian cities but also a few American cities like NYC and San Francisco.

In smaller American cities, it's not common, but it's not unheard of.  It has definitely been getting more common though, with the gas prices going up.  I try to do it whenever I can (i.e., whenever I'm going someplace that is served by a direct bus line).

  14. Some people do it to reduce the amount of gas they're burning, for the sake of protecting the environment. It's not a terrible idea to try it every now and then.

  15. I don't know ANYONE who does, but i always hear people saying that we should take buses even though we have cars (saves gas, global warming, etc.)

I think that the people who preach about this are complete hypocrites because i bet that they don't take buses everywhere.

  16. My girlfriend does.  It's faster to take the subway downtown and she saves a lot of money compared to paying for parking.

I drive because my drive is around 10 minutes but a public transit commute ( I'd have to take 2 buses ) is between 30 to 45 minutes.  Sometimes I do ride my bicycle though during the summer months.  That takes me about 20 minutes.

  17. It sucks waiting at a bus stop when it's so cold your fingers are about to fall off while the fat ghetto guy next to you smoking his skimpy blunt keeps looking at you like he wants to eat you and the group of idiots sharing ipods spinning around in circles and the old man with the bottle of cheap wine keeps falling over and the bus finally gets there and it's so crowded you have to stand and you keep flying all over the place and then you finally get a seat and your so happy but an old woman gets on and you have to get up and stand for another 20 minutes. but yeah. i ride the bus. it's worth it especially for the exercise of walking to the bus stop and such. also I have a dui so its extremely risky to drive since my license is suspended!! also you meet the most interesting people ever!!! I mean it's fun to ride around in your own car listening to your own music but sometimes its a nice scenic change. If you like meeting people, you are definitly have a better chance riding the bus then driving in your own car!!
