Does anyone think boxing is a barbaic sport? Should it be banned?

Do you think that boxing is too brutal and barbaic?

Should two men who dont even know eachother get in the ring

and beat the c**p out of eachother?

I mean what does it prove?

Other then a busted up lip, broken nose and badly cut eye?

Should this sport be banned?

I agree with toughguy.  I'm a Canadian female (amateur) boxer and in Canada, boxing gets even less respect than in America and as a girl, I get questions like this all the time.  Sorry, but you are seriously uniformed.  You see two guys fighting in a ring, but the reality is, those two guys are not just having a punch up.  You can't really understand the training and the conditioning both mental and physical that goes into boxing unless you've been in the ring.   You have to constantly outthink your opponent and you have to push yourself to your limits and then find the strength to push yourself some more.  Do you feel the same way about martial arts?  It's quite similar, but without the Asian influence.  It's all about discipline and technique...and it's beautiful when properly done.  It's not for everyone, but i say TRY IT before you bash it.

If people don't like boxing simply don't watch it.

Boxing is one of the oldest sports and requires more conditioning and training than any other. If you had a full understanding of the sport you would appreciate that it is really a true sweet science.

As a boxer there is no bigger challange than going into the ring and applying your trade against another and measuring yourself. Until someone walks up those steps they will never understand the feeling of harnessing your fear and agression and releasing it correctly and measured.

boxing is not just a slugfest where two boofheads just stand toe to toe and throw haymakers. there is a h**l of a lot that goes in prior to the fight.

Boxing is a sport that requires great conditioning and skill.  Boxing requires technique and many times requires being able to out think your opponent.  Yes it's a very tough sport and it's not for the weak or the timid at all.  For some fighters out there, it probably keeps them off of the streets and out of the jails.  It is organized and refereed with a ring doctor nearby.  No this sport should not be banned because it is loved by many including the participants who make a living doing it.  If you are so against it, why don't you go to a major fight and protest it?  Otherwise let them do what they like to do.  This forum is used mostly by people like myself who love asking boxing questions and that love boxing.

It is the same risk as in playing football or rugby. So no I do not think it is barbaic because it is an art. It is like a chess game of strategy and psychology is being used as well because the object is to outsmart your opponent and beat him at his game.

wut do u mean wut does it prove? what do any sports prove? their about athletes competin for personal glory and our entertainment. boxings been around since the first goddam olympics.

some of these boxers would b messed up without boxing, beatin the c**p outuv strangers on the street so just b glad they get their aggression out in the ring.
