Just saw an episode of my super sweet 16 lol yeah i know it sucks but theres nothing else on. and her dad wouldnt let her have a non christian singing band. is there anyone here who still think rock or metal is evil like some ppl did in the 70's? and if so why? 'cos most of the songs have pretty loving lyrics (im not talkin about the life style i can see how that might be sinful to a christian)

  1. Yes and No. so i guess it depends on the song honestly.

the issue would be: does the song glorify God or uphold God's children.

many people also think all rock music is bad/evil because they almost all sound the same and they give off an appearance of evil- i.e Anberlin's 'Godspeed' and Metallica songs.

this questions answer could almost become a full fledged sermon you know. i hope my answer is the direction you were looking for....

  2. no it's not music is expression

it might be a sin to listen to anti-semitic music though

  3. Ephesians 5

9Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Colossians 3

16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

  4. Apparently the Christian version of "sin" is basically anything that the Christian himself finds as "evil" or "bad" in a biased opinion without even trying to understand it in the first place........

  5. There's nothing wrong with it.

  6. No.  It's only music...sheesh!

  7. RAP IS THE DEVIL'S MUSIC! (according to a fundie I know)

  8. I have argued with people of my own faith who said that Rock is from the devil. Of course these are the same people who claim you have to take the Bible literally, but I don't see any of them walking around missing an eye or a hand.

  9. I think those people are few and far between, fortunately.

  10. only people who still think the sun revolves around the earth think c**p like this

  11. These poor folk have all kinds of guilt they have to live through.  They are the same ones who think that cows and other animals should wear pants to hide their naughty bits.

Of course, on the other hand, dear old dad might have been an absolute tart in his younger days sleeping around, into drugs and other stuff that is associated with 'rock music' that is why he thinks everyone who listens to it will immediately fornicate or become a drug addict.

Dad needs to grow up.  Find a friend's place and listen to it there.

  12. Only badly written music is a sin.

  13. There is no evil.

    There is no sin.

    There is crappy music.

  14. The instruments used and the melodies are not evil. But what are they saying? Are they promoting God, or themselves? If they are promoting sin and selfishness, it is evil. And this goes for ALL genres of music, not just rock and metal.

  15. It's just a show. Young kids being bad and rebelious. It's all for fun and too be cool. Nowadays, hip-hop and rap is cool and rock is for older people like me.

  16. I disagree, but right on for that dad setting boundaries for the spoiled brat. I hope she cried because her party wasn't 'perfect'.

    I love metal :)

  17. At one time waltz music and dancing close was considered evil and a sin.  Don't sweat it. Like dance and art, it is all entertainment.

  18. Of course not. (My son is a musician and he plays everything!)  It is what your motives are with the songs, and what's in your heart.
