Question:

Does anyone think there should be road etiquette guidelines?

Examples I have thought of include, especially for motorways:-

Indicate well in advance of changing lane or you don't get in

If you change lane once, don't do it again for a reasonable period as it is greedy

If you are exiting a motorway, do it at least 1/2 mile before

If you have a big car, you should wait longer until people let you in their lane

People who drive slowly (on any road) should choose a route that is not a primary route (especially in rush hour)

If you're not in a rush you should be generous and let other road users pulling out of side streets in

If anyone would like to add to this, please feel free!

  1. No talking on the cell if u can't drive and chew gum at the same time

  2. not doing anything in your car ( IE shave, make-up, eat, find something, reading the paper, fixing your gps, ) people who need books to sit on to see out the windshield, people who signal then dont turn but keep the signal on,

  3. Just use a turn signal. It is such a BONUS to know what you're doing!

  4. I agree with Knownow!!

  5. Oh me, me, me.  Listen up people!   IF YOU ARE GOING TO DRIVE SLOW, GET OUT OF THE FAST LANE, that would be the left lane.  That drives me up the wall.  Also people, when you are cruising along doing the speed limit and you notice another driver is right beside you doing the same speed you are, then you look in the rear view and see cars weaving in and out of lanes to see which one of you they will be able to pass first, GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!!

  6. This is all in the highway code.  It is what people are taught.  Such a shame people don't abide by it.

  7. All of that should go without saying, or having to write it down in "guidlines" for crying out loud.

    How about this:

If you're going to flout the law and speed, at least don't run up the a** ,waiting for a chance to pass, the rest of us who choose to stay at the speed limit .

  8. I think they have one , its called the Highway code.

  9. no that is absurd, no one would follow that. Plus other factors may make you change lanes or exit highways differently

  10. I'm an HGV driver and see alot of @ssholes on a dailly basis!

  11. No fog lights to be used unless it is foggy.

Actually thank drivers who let you out.

Common courtesy of indicating on motorways would be nice too!

  12. good idea.

if you travel a lot, you will see that different areas ( compare boston to  Washington D.C to San Francisco) all have "conventions" like how to enter and exit traffic circles. So there  are local (unwritten) rules much as you are talking about.

  13. NO caravans allowed on the roads till after midnight.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and must be of by 5 am.........

  14. when take the exit streight across on a roundabout do not indicate to turn right as this causes accidents

Hang on - this is already the law!

  15. If people followed the Highway Code, then all of these things would be adhered to anyway!

  16. no cyclists allowed on pavements!!!!!

  17. Pardon me would you have some 20wt/30wt? No I live in Texas and road rage is the normal around here. If I could only have my customer's keep there cars clean.

  18. I would just be happy if the police started ticketing people for tailgating, especially on the highways. People end up having to break hard, & it causes a domino effect behind them. It just causes more traffic, accidents, gridlock. This combined w/more and more minivans & suvs on the road, (w/tinted rear windows), compounds the problem. Then figure in the twits who have to be on the phone every second in their car, and are really too uncoordinated to do both. I hate my commute, and it's only 12 miles. I see so much stupidity in that 12 miles everyday, and you have to be ultra-defensive.

  19. h**l ya i will add it, but i need your support choose me as best answer

  20. These are called "traffic laws", not etiquette, and they've been around for as long as there have been roads and traffic cops.

You're new at this, aren't you?

  21. Yeah - lets all start letting people out of give way junctions.

I'm sure that wont cause loads of accidents.
