Does anyone use "Children's Place" day care nursery in Wyke - W.Yorks UK?

What do you think of the imminent closure?

I rang the directors today, and there are no plans to sell this branch on. The accountant has advised them to keep the build "For tax purposes"!!!.

How can they close this nursery for running at a loss, yet keep the building (with it's mortgage) for tax puproses?

Surely this will be money going out with NOTHING coming in.

Smells very fishy to me. Director also said they would consider any offers from 3rd parties, I said how ill you get offers if you are not advertising/marketing it, and she said "I know, we won't get any".

Disgraceful.

Like everything else in this country Spiegy .... it's all going to the dogs - but the dogs don't even want it these days. Trouble is there's too many chiefs and not enough indians these days. At Goole hospital, East Yorkshire - they employed a Consultant on £45,000 a year to find out how they could save money!!!! The worlds gone mad.

I agree it's disgraceful, but turn it around.  Get together a parents'/carers group and run it as a commitee.  You should be able to get Govt/LA support unless there is a wealth of alternatives in your area.  Most pre-schools are run by parent committees anyway so it's only taking a small step further.  You may even be able to get local business support by taking it to the media or perhaps lottery funding (although this is never ongoing so could only be used as start up/purchase costs).

If you feel this strongly about it, you are a strong enough person to do something about it!  Good Luck (and I hope to hear more questions from you as you jump over the hurdles!)

p.s. if they are a chain, then they can set the mortgage costs of your branch against the overall incomings of all branches for tax purposes.  hope this makes sense.
