If you wear contacts, which brand do you wear? How often do you have to change them, and do you have any tips? Also, what brands have you found to be itchy/bad quality? Thanks!! : )

  1. Expect to see a wide variety of answers.  In short, there is NO one lens that's more comfortable than the others.  There's a plethora of lens materials in use, with many manufacturers making different lenses out of different materials.

Case in point: The Ciba Day & Night lenses that the one person raves about are much thicker than the Biomedics 55 lenses.  Some people may love the Cibas while other people will get extreme eye irritation with them.

I'm currently trying Biomedics 55 lenses.  So far they've been great.  I'm wearing them 24-36 hrs on average and they actually feel better at hr 36 than they do during the first hour.   That said, I had previously tried Biomedics XC lenses (different material, similar material to the Ciba Day & Night) and they absolutely were h**l, making my eyes feel like someone had run sandpaper over them and that was only after 2 hrs of wearing them.  I kept trying them, but only made it up to 4 hrs with those before I'd rip them out of my eyes.

This is where a good ophthalmologist / optometrist  earns their pay.  Any good practice will have multiple brands on hand and will give you trial pairs to try for a week or two.  Don't expect to get it right on the first or second try.   But keep trying.   It's amazing what the right lens for your eye can feel like and how well you can see with them.

  2. acuve(dunno how to spell it sry) no tips just dont be scared cause it won't work if u do

  3. I've used contacts for a while now and I use the Optima or something they are so comfy and I change them once a month, I also use the Replenish cleaning solution.

  4. I use biomedics.  They are not very expensive, and are great for sensitive eyes.  I tried lots of expensive brands that only made my eyes red and scratchy before these.  You can wear them overnight, but I don't so I can only tell you they last about 6 weeks if you take them out at night.

  5. a lot of my friends have trouble wearing contacts for long periods of time, they complain about their eyes getting dry and itchy but i've never had that problem, i guess everyone is different. anyways i use a brand called proclear (only in canada i think) and i'm suppose to change them every 30 days but i usually wear them for a good 50 - 60 days.

i wear my contacts from 7am until 1am every day and i'm fine, no itchiness at all. eye drops help a lot when your eyes get dry though.

hmm.. before that i used focus dailies (only canada as well, i think?) but with these, you wear them for the whole day and throw them away as soon as the day ended. i would recommend the dailies because it's so much easier opening a new pack every morning

  6. Acuvue 2, I change them as needed.

I switch from eyeglasses to contacts, when one gets to the point of discomfort.

A good eye doctor can fit you in the proper brand.

It depends on the individual person. eye moister, fit, etc.

I alway carry good quality eye drops for contact lens.

I'll store mine in a "no rub" solution.

I personally prefer to go to an eye doctor the has an autorefractor.

  7. Ciba Night & Day. They are phenomenal. You can wear  them for up to 30 days without even taking them out at night. They are a little more expensive, but you use them longer than other brands, and hardly ever have to buy contact solution. I use mine for three months, taking them out for a full day at the end of each month to let my eyes get some air, but they are highly oxygen permeable, so are very safe for extended use. I love them, especially since I can fall asleep with them in and not worry about it. In the past I have used the Acuvue Advance with Hydroclear, as they are supposed to keep your eyes moist and comfortable, but I found that they highly irritated my eyes (maybe due to a new chemical in them or something)
