I'm half way though college and I'm forever mixing and slurring words when I talk and I never used to.

I'm convinced it's because I used to think in words and now its slowly turning to diagrams, functions and equations!

Anyone else find this???

  1. No.  People who work in science and mathematics do not suffer from loss of language skills.  Those who write papers gain in writing skill.  Your ability to think in mathematical forms should not decrease your skills in writing, reading, speaking or understanding speech.   I suggest that you might benefit from taking courses that require you to write.

  2. It does tend to happen when you're learning, if you don't keep up your social contacts and engage in discussions on your own.  Once you start collaborating with others, your need to communicate increases.  And when you start writing up your results for reviewed journals, you'll wish you had paid more attention to language.  Regardless of your profession, the largest share of satisfaction in life comes from relationships with other people.  Don't neglect that skill.
