Does anyone wonder why Wal-Mart has not ever sponsored a NASCAR team or NASCAR event?

It would seem like it would benefit both NASCAR and Wal-Mart

  1. Why should wal mart spend 25-30 million doalrs to be a primary sponsor when the don't need to be. They get a lot of exposure just being a car in the NASCAR games as mentioned in here.

Htey do everything they can to keep rpices down so taking on this much extra cost is not in theri buisness model

  2. The advertising is probably outsourced to a Chinese company like all of the manufacturing jobs are. They work for $0.70 cents an hour there.

  3. They would probably like to be a sponsor, but it just hasn't happened for whatever reason. I know the #101 car has been a Walmart car in the NASCAR games for a couple years now, so they're obviously interested in NASCAR.

  4. I agree.  I think they should sponsor the Cup race at Kansas (since David Glass, a major Wal-Mart bigwig, is from Kansas City).  However, Wal-Mart seems to be doing just fine without the extra advertising.

PS: Earlier this season, didn't Rowdy have a Sam's Club logo on the back of the M&M's 18?  I know I saw Kroger a couple times, but I'm pretty sure I saw Sam's Club on there too...

ETA: Kyle Busch had Sam's Club sponsorship at Daytona and Infineon.

  5. Reason is they are financially smart.  Most sponsorship on cars is not needed.  Home depot and lowes both have improved sales very little since sponsorship on the race teams.

It is more of a perk and tax write off.  It is more for executives and higher ups, use company money to sponsor a car, receive VIP treatment for them and clients.

    Wal Mart is just smart.

Sure they pay c**p.  But no one is forcing anyone to work at their stores.  Go out and get an education or learn a skill.  Your mistakes in life are not my problem.

  6. If Wal-Mart did sponsor a car, they could get M. Waltrip to run some races for them all he'd have to do is take off the Napa decals and put on the Wal Mart's his car is already the color.

  7. if it aint broke dont fix it. why would walmart go to nascar when they already have excellent sales

  8. Not sure, but wouldn't it be nice to see Target and Walmart Racing to the finish line??

  9. They probably cannot find a team that will sell their soul to have WallyWorld as a sponser.

  10. I know that last year at Phoenix there was a Wal-Mart sponsored car in what is now known as the Camping World West series, I think that is a full-time sponsor in that series.

  11. The drivers would not get much benifits.

  12. A friend of mine asked David Glass that exact question about 15 years ago at a Wal-Mart managers meeting since the demographics for Wal-Mart and NASCAR were the same, white, rural, southern, working class (at the time David was the CEO) David told him that they had looked into it and found out that it would cost over $5 million and asked if if it would be worth it to our customers to have one less cashier every Saturday in every store to pay for it.  Wal-Mart has always advertised much less than its rivals (for years they only put out one newspaper ad monthly to Kmart and Targets 4 a month) and still spends a much lower % of sales on advertising.  The fact that they spend so little on advertising has undoubtly contributed to alot of the negative stories that the media put out about them.  Alot of newspapers do not like to bite the hand that feeds them.

  13. For the record, this weekend there will be two cars sponsored by Wal-Mart in the Nationwide race at Canada:

    22 Andrew Ranger Dodge Supercuts / Tide / Wal-Mart

27 Brad Coleman Ford Scott Towels / Wal-Mart

Also Wal-Mart sponsors Alex Tagliani in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

  14. You all missed the point. Wal-Mart dosn't do that for their purpose in life. KEEP THE PRICES LOW,  HELLO. Wake up, advertising cost Money.

  15. Because they sell all the products that are sponsored on the other cars.  And have you been to a Walmart lately?  Can you possibly get business any better than it currently is?

  16. I work at Wal-Mart and we are not oppressed and yes I have very nice benefits for me and my whole family thank you very much.

I think they did a co-sponsorship on a Nationwide Series car before if I am not mistaken.

  17. They cannot find a driver or crew members who will work for minimum wage

  18. Well they really don't need to sponsor anything. Their name is very well recognized in America. It'd almost be a waste for them to sponsor anything.
