  1. I used to work at Mervyns. Yuck....Rats in the Stockroom!

  2. I worked at Mervyn's a billion years ago.

I felt the manageral staff treated me like c**p, as iwas only holiday help

  3. Hello, I worked at mervyns a few  years back. I couldnt stand it. ive worked retail/customer service jobs before Mervyns but the thing with that place was you werent just a cashier, if you worked in the dressing rooms you had to monitor that, collect the clothes, hang them back up and get them ready to go back out onto the floor by section, if your cleared that out then you  had to straighten up the clothes and you had to work register if they called you for back up. there were also days that we had to go out on the floor and haggle customers to apply for the credit card and then again they were haggled at the registered when they made their purchases. We had to clap and sing in the morning before opening the store. Its not for me. Period. If your outgoing and a people loving person and love motivation by singing and clapping then go for it. I lasted at this job for a week and I walked out. I felt it was too much on a new person.

the interview was one on one. The training though is a class that lasts for about a week.

    Ive never heard of gottschalks.

  4. both

  5. I've worked in retail before (4 years plus) and Mervyn's is pretty "low rent". The people you work with are really nice, but the pay is lower than Target, Pennys, Kohl's ect. They are woefully understaffed and the store is messy, dirty and the expectations on you as an associate are ridiculous. You have to put tons of stock out, ring up customers, pressure them to open credit cards (for that they pay you a dollar!!!!), straighten everything up, do markdowns, change signage...I could go on and on. Think twice. Get into as high a reatil venue as you can for less work and more pay (Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks ect.) or get a job at Starbucks, better pay and benefits!

  6. My aunt works at mervyns.. And yeah she does. She says that she gets alot of discounts too..
