  1. My husband works for them.  He's been over there since 23 July.

It's hard work.  You have to work Security for at least 90 days before you can apply for other positions.

    A typical shift is about 12.5 hours.  They're working 8-8 on a 5 and 2 schedule (5 days on, 2 days off).

Housing arrangements are off base, outside of downtown Kuwait City.  They're actually living in a city called Mangaf.  My husband has 1 roommate.  His apartment is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with a very small kitchen, and even smaller washer and dryer in the kitchen.  There is a full gym located at the apartment complex, as well as a pool.  They're walking distance from a mall/grocery story, and the hospital.

As far as access to the different bases, yes, you'l get access to all of the bases there.  You'll be working one of three bases there, the largest being Camp Arafjan.  They have access to all of the base amenities as well as the chow halls (but they must pay for their food).  Paychecks are every other Friday.  Their regular pay gets paid direct deposit into your bank account.  The per diem (living expense) gets paid in KD (Kuwaiti Dinar) every two weeks also.  My husband gets about 144 KD every two weeks which is about $538.

There is internet access at the apartments, however, it's broadband, and the entire complex is hooked up to it, so it's very slow.  You can purchase your own internet service downtown and pay for a years service, which is what my husband just did).  It's a lot faster connection since it's not shared with everyone else.

You can also purchase your own cell phone over there and load it with minutes.  It's easier and cheaper than using your cell phone from the states.  If you go there, invest in the MagicJack.  It's a USB card that gets plugged into your computer.  It gives you a local telephone number (you have to register it before you leave the states) so you can call home or your family can call you in kuwait, without having to pay for an international call.

Also, in case you weren't told by the recruiter, the application process takes about 2 months to complete.  You'll need a passport if you don't already have one, plus you'll have to get a physical (they'll tell you where to go), which was a joke when my husband did his, as well as having to take a written evaluation of your mental condition.  All of your paperwork gets faxed back to them overseas.  Make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING!  We had to refax some of his paperwork several times because they kept 'losing' his stuff.  Once you're over there, you'll go through training, weapons qualifications, as well as a PT test (1 mile run in under 10 minutes, plus sit ups and push ups).
