Does applying fiberglass isulation behind pectum sound deadening board do anything except for making me sick?

tectum sound deadening baord applied at the upper halve of gym walls on horizontal 2X4s supposedly needed fiberglass insulation behind it between the 2X4s. I thought it was redundent and idiotic while I was doing it and told the super he was an idiot and was an even worse idiot for letting him make me do it. My question is...........is the sound deadening quality of the board so poor that it really needs help behind it????? Or is the supervisor the idiot I think he is????

Sometimes one fix isn't enough to do the job.  Acoustic barriers have ratings which can be combined to improve the sound deadening properties.  The  sound board may excel at reducing acoustic reflection (reducing echoes within the room) while the fiberglass will decrease the transmission of sound through the wall to adjacent spaces.

If you have to ask the question you know even less.. What about the insulation value of the fibreglass etc? Have you given it any thought at all. It would of be designed by some expert some where and you supervisor is only doing what is required of him or her
