The club is the Titleist Vokey design Spin Milled wedge. And I'm talking about the smaller grooves in between the bigger ones.

  1. Why not use a wet towel, a golf tee and a little water. Dip the club head in water, use a sharp golf tee to get the gunk out of the grooves, wipe the faces with the wet towel removing any excess dirt and grass stain, and dry with the dry portion of the Turkish towel. Sand paper and steel wool are absolute NO_NOs !! This applies to any club.

  2. It shouldn't damage it because it is acceptable to use wire brushes to clean the faces/grooves of other clubs.  You may want to consult a local pro though.

  3. Don't use steel wool, it will dull the face/grooves of the club and result in putting less spin on the ball. Just clean it with a softer bristled brush and water. Also, you can have your wedge professionally sharpened to put the texture back on the club face. I've done it before, and it works well.

  4. Depends on which finish you have. Steel wool will damage (wear away) the chrome finish. The softer copper-like finish can also be damaged that way. I'd use a brush with plastic bristles to clean the face. I can't imagine getting them so dirty you'd steel wool to clean them.
