I moved home during my husbands deployment due to my diagnosis of cancer and the recommendations for chemo. He is due to be back in Feb and i want to go to his duty station now to look for a job and arrange housing. I am able to keep our things in the area they are stored until Feb. I am wondering if they will pay for my return to the duty station from our home of record? If so who should i contact in order to start this process?

  1. It's not likely they're going to keep shipping you around all over the place.

You're going to have to contact your husband, who should contact his PAC to research this.

  2. No. You could have stayed in base housing while he was gone. i realize you had your reasons, but the military will not accept them for paying your way back.

  3. No, the military only pays to move you due to a change of station PCS not in a situation in which you personally chose to move. I understand and agree with your reasons to leave and return but those costs will be paid by you. Good luck on a clean bill of health.

Also, make sure you get enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program. (EFMP) You can call your base hospital for more information of you can download the forms online, have your Oncologist complete and sign them and then mail them off to the appropriate military PERS office. They are needed to keep you in a major medical military concentration area to ensure your medical needs can be met. In the Navy it's mandatory that all eligible parties enroll in EFMP so I'm pretty sure the Army is the same. I am a survivor and EFM member myself.
