Does aspartame cause autism?

I just found a few articles that suggest that drinking aspartame while pregnant causes autism - I am 8 1/2 months now & freaking out due to drinking diet coke (say 2-3 cans a week)

  1. you should check out this lady's book on the effects of aspartame...

  2. There are no known causes of autism - and much research has been and is being done into it. Any writer of any article making claims like that either has no medical credentials at all, or risks losing them due to gross professional misconduct.

Proper, valid research, is peer reviewed and released in official (and entirely unintelligible to laymen) medical journals. A few articles you found are therefore not based on proper, valid research. I really wouldn't worry about it. Not least because there's nothing you can do about it now.

  3. I don't think that 2 to 3 cans of diet coke a week will cause autism. What these articles probably said was "MAY" cause autism. It is not good to drink too many drinks with caffeine in them while pregnant any way. But just relax, I am sure your baby will be fine. There are a lot worse things you could have been eating or drinking.

  4. I very much doubt it.

But any chemical would be advisable to stay away from when pregnant, just to be on the safe side.

  5. There are no known causes of autism just much speculation. There is nothing you can do to know whether your child has it and no way of preventing a child being born with the condition. Just enjoy your pregnancy and stop worrying about things you have no control over your child will be fine.
