Does baby food ie. rice cereal, fruits and veggies digest in my 6 months old belly? Does he get anything out of this or should I just give him breast milk until it does actually do something for his body..?

  1. It does digest into his system. The thing to remember is that as an infant they are still growing so rapidly that they are not able to eat enough "solid" foods from the cereals to the fruits and veggies to meet all of their daily nutritional needs for growth. Also it is hard to find good protein sources outside of formula or breastmilk for this age. Realisticly the solids are to teach him how to eat and to introduce him to new textures and flavors so later on he will accept a wider variety of foods. He is getting nutrients from the foods you offer, but it is a supplement to the breastmilk.

  2. Yes, It provides extra nutrients that his body needs and keeps him full longer so he will get enough rest and have enough energy to grow

  3. Yes it does !

at 6 months the baby needs extra iron thats why the solids

  4. Fruits and veggies will digest in his stomach, however in my experience rice cereal doesn't do a whole heck of a lot except make my baby constipated.  But only introduce I new food each week.  The reason for that is that you need to give him time after introducing a new food to see if he has a reaction or allergy to it.  If there is no reaction to it then proceed with a new food.  If he does have a reaction to it (i.e. diarrhea, constipation, vomiting etc.)  then take him to the pediatrician asap.  if it's a weekend take him to the er and follow up with your pediatrician.

Also start by only giving him this food once a day and follow it with breastmilk to wash it down and to give him any nutrients he may not have gotten from the baby food.
