Does baby parakeets need any special food to make them healthy?

i just got 2 baby parakeets n i dont noe if they need any special food to help them grow n keep them healthy. if u know any thing please give me the source or name of food thanks.

If they are still formula fed they need the formula following the manufacturers directions. Carefully.

If they are weaned and you are feeding them a seed/pellet diet that should be sufficient.

8in one sells special seed formulas that are enriched with vitamins (as are seed/pellets). They are a nice treat for the parakeets though and I buy it occasionally. It is a nice treat to sprinkle in their food dish or even put in a separate dish (about a tablespoon is sufficient).

If they are young parakeets it is good to give them sprigs of millet seeds off and on. Not as a substitute for food and not all the time. They are fatty but little ones often are weaned onto this during the last couple weeks of formula.

I give the millet as a treat to the adults about once a month. Young ones can use the extra calories usually.

Make sure they have mineral blocks and make sure the food you are feeding them is enriched. The egg enriched seeds are good if you are feeding them a seed/pellet mixture.

FYI it is a good idea to store the food in the freezer to keep fresh. I take out enough to last a week and the rest is kept in the freezer for freshness.

If they are on a seed diet already thehn start feeding them that with millet as a treat. But if they are still formula fed then you will have to hand feed them yourself. Its not hard just make sure you get the temperature right cause you can freeze your birds throat if its to cold, the normal temp should be no colder then 98 degrees. Formula can be bought at any local pet store and especially at petco or petsmart.
