Butterfly Kiss can answer this question if I knew how to reach her. Friend of mine tells me baking soda causes scratches in the surface and invites the accumulation of germs and bacteria

  1. Not true! it's absolutely safe to use, in fact Vim has a new cleanser that contains baking soda.

  2. baking soda actually helps kill germs. You possibly could even use salt, it disinfects and is a mild abrasive, it shouldn't scratch stainless, but whatever you use make sure you always go on the grain of the stainless!

If you do use vinegar, warm it up a bit in the microwave to help cut through anything that may be hard to get off, use a microfiber cloth and always take a barely damp rag and wipe any residue off.

  3. Scratches are more likely caused by 'scrubbing' cleaners, or the cleaning pad itself, not baking soda.  I prefer to avoid using abrasive cleansers for regular cleaning.

I've never seen any scratches from using just baking soda itself.

Lysol is an excellent choice to sanitize sinks and work surfaces.

  4. I think that watered down vinegar would probably be better for stainless steel.  I have used baking soda before with no problems though, it actually a lot gentler than many of the cleaners on the markets.

  5. Baking soda is actually a very mild cleaner that will be good for it.

  6. I use Ceramabryte and a microfiber cloth to clean my stainless steel sink.  It's a super ceramic cooktop cleaner that also cleans stainless steel, that you can buy at Home Depot.  You would be surprised the disgusting black residue that comes off when you use it.
