I want to try whitening my teeth the cheap way (woohoo on being cheap!) because I wasted about 30 dollars on Whitening strips. They got the job done but my teeth are fading again. Does baking soda whiten teeth? And how can I use hydrogen peroxide? I heard that whitens teeth too. Thanks!!

  1. Yeah totally both products are Scientificly proven to whiten teeth and there is even a tooth paste with baking soda in it

Good Luck with that perfect smile ^.^

  2. Be careful putting too many concoctions in your mouth. Don't swallow that stuff. Even toothpaste warns you not to swallow it.

  3. Yes to both questions. Also, you can buy baking soda with peroxide toothpaste it does very good.

  4. The most common option used as homemade teeth whitening agent is baking soda, which has a mild bleaching action. Given that it is used in baking, it also implies safety. Baking soda is sprinkled on the toothbrush, and teeth then cleaned using a gentle, circular motion. Care should still be taken though, especially for people with gum sensitivity. Old wives’ recipes often state that a paste of baking powder, a little salt, and a few drops of white vinegar, works effectively.

Salt, used exactly as baking soda, is also touted as being a good teeth whitener. However, it might just be its osmosis, dehydrating action that makes teeth appear whiter, since dehydrated teeth look whiter.

Lemon juice is often used, but it had high acidic levels, so teeth can weaken in the long run. Other natural, fruit options regard rubbing the inside of an orange peel on the teeth. A strawberry cut in half and the inside rubbed on teeth also works. Mashed strawberry can also be applied with a toothbrush. Apple cider vinegar is also said to be effective. Dried orange rind, and walnut bark, is also good.

Good oral hygiene however is key, and no amount of homemade teeth whitening agents will eradicate bad hygiene. Drinking lots of water, instead of staining liquids such as coffee, tea, and colas, held in keeping the mouth fresh and well hydrated. Tobacco, a powerful staining agent, should be avoided too. Foods that activate salivary content, such as apples, should be eaten more often.
