Does battery corrosion mean the battery is going bad?

I know I can pour Coke on the battery to remove the acid, but does this mean I will be buying a new battery soon? Or is this just normal? This is on my 04 Nissan Sentra.

  1. It is normal, all do it over time.

Go to your local auto parts store (or even walmart) carries these little felt washers that go underneath the cable clamp. They help with buildup.

Pour some classic coca cola on the terminal posts to remove a big part of the build up (yeah imagine what it is doing to your teeth...), and scrub with a coarse bristle brush.

  2. nope means its dirty and really the coke thing works but best you take them loose and scrape the in side every once in a while and when you get done put some ky jelly over them will them them clean a long time... its normal for them too all cars do it and if your car every dont start and it just clicks that will be the reason most likey and the way to fix it... here is a good how to do it site... type in how to clean battery cables

  3. It's best to completely disassemble the battery cable terminal ends and brush a mixture of baking soda and tap water to dissolve all the built up.

The next step is critical to prevent the problem from happening again. Auto parts stores have a small inexpensive internal wire brush to clean the inside of the terminal ends. The same brush will have internal bristles to clean the battery terminal posts. Auto parts stores also have a handy expansion tool to pry open the cable ends. Spray the battery terminals and cable ends with a Battery Terminal Protector, and slide them down to the lowest point of the battery terminals and tighten them securely.

Sulfated terminal ends causes electrical resistance and it's a good thing you noticed this as one of these days your car won't start or charge properly.

  4. it happened 2 me once ..its just the acid that touched the lead nothing major just remove it ... but if it kept piling up it might cuz the car not to start  so just keep it clean

  5. It depends on how old the battery is.Most don't last 5 years of continuous use.Instead of coke why not clean it off and put a thin layer of petroleum jelly on it to stop the problem(or you may be buying a bat. clamp soon)
