Does being a mommy change your fashion style?

Just out of curiosity, does being a mommy affect your fashion style/sense at all?

For example:

- from skinny jeans to "momjeans"... lol

- from sophisticated hairstyle to ponytails

- from Victoria's Secrets to nursing bras

- from brazilian wax into... (uh well, no, I won't go there)

How's your experience?

  1. Some but not much. Your comfort levels might change but you still know what you like and don't like!

  2. I try hard for this answer to be a no!!! But i think if i hadnt had my kids would i dress exactly the same the answer would be no i would dress alot better!!!

  3. Each woman is different -- you take control of your own "personality" and the way "you look" don't want to look like a mom? then don't!

  4. It really didn't change my fashion too much, except for the fact that I no longer wear big platform shoes.  I wore them from high school until I was 33.....now I just stick to tennis shoes or flat-soled shoes.  Believe me this was a BIG change for me....I am only 5 feet tall and always "needed" 5-inch platforms to feel a bit taller.  Since the baby I just wasn't able to pull it off anymore without falling on my face!

I still dress like I used to, but I don't mind going to the grocery store in a ponytail and milk/food-stained shirts and pants when I'm feeling tired and lazy.....;)

  5. Def not, well not me, I like to think I am quite stylish..still wearing my 3 inch heels lugging around a baby carrier and an extra bag!

But will admit I do put my hair in a pony tail when I get home from work! lol.

  6. i would say yes.

i have a bunch of clothes from before my pregnancy that fit decently now but they just arent comfortable anymore... i used to wear really low cut jeans and tight shirts most of the time... now i am bending over so much more that my butt crack would always be hanging out if i wore my old jeans... and well the tighter shirts show off all the stretch marks and stuff... so thats no good too

  7. I wasn't going to answer this one, but since my s**y self has been displayed by Ellie, I feel compelled to comment, though the picture speaks for itself.

I have selected these wonderful Mommy and Me sweatshirts, sizes please Rosie, Ellie and B&B.

Ellie-we really should have worn our matching culottes for that picture, don't you think?

Okay one XL, Nina? M, L or XL?

  8. Yes it does. It is called Clean & Comfy.

  9. lol...I've always been the levi's and flip flops kind of girl...

So having a child has become the perfect justification for my fashion faux pas.

Although...I did used to be pretty vigilant about depilatating...but sadly I find myself more and more often...as furry as an ape.

    Aw well...lol...s***w it.

  10. Lol, I don't know if flip-flops, spit-up stained shirts, nursing pads, and a baseball cap can really be considered a fashion style, but that is the look that I am going with right now.

Now, if my husband and I are going out somewhere nice, I might step it up a little, but generally I pretty much look like the "before" picture on some really bad "Mommy Makeover" show on Lifetime. But I can live with that for now.

  11. To begin with it does take a while to get back to your fashion style, as much as you try and maintain it during pregnancy and after the birth it is hard as there is little "fashionable" maternity wear out there, and of course it's tricky to see the "lady garden" beneath the bump in order to tend to it and keep it immaculate.

Since having my children i have tried to maintain my style but with a slightly more comfortable and sensible edge, instead of high shoes i'll wear flats but i still like my skinny jeans and vest tops, once my b***s went down i was also back into my pretty undies.

It will vary for each person and how they feel after birth as well as how quick they can lose their baby weight. Some mums will find it easier to throw on some comfy and casual clothes instead of high fashion items, it certainly would make you worry less about being thrown up on or getting paint on your clothes etc... but it doesn't have to be that way.

  12. Not really...Since having my son I still wear Victorias Secret bras, comfy jeans, and fitted t-shirts, and well I have ALWAYS wore a ponytail..I have never been the one to style my hair a lot...It is so much easier to just put it up and out of the way..I am so tempted to cut it all off again :) but since winter is almost here I think I will wait until next year..But NO my style has not changed..While pregnant I didn't even buy maternity clothes...one main reason was I am short and most cheaper maternity clothes are for women 5'8" or taller so s***w THAT...Today I am wearing a nice pair of juniors jeans and a t-shirt I got WAY before I had my son 17 months ago...Of course I am still tiny as I was before I had my son...I have a bikini that I got a few months before I got pregnant that I STILL have and fit into..I have pictures of me with my son when he was a newborn and I was wearing a slipknot shirt..so my style hasn't changed..I love the simple clothes I wear...I am only 20..I am not ready to wear "mommy jeans" yet!!!

  13. Don't let Rosie or Betwixt lie to you!!

I snapped this picture of the three of us along with Aaron's Mommy out and about last weekend.

    http://msinformedblog.com/wp-content/upl...

(that's me with the shag and pooch)

Aaron's Mommy: XL for me please...I like to wear by Holiday sweatshirts at least down to my knees with my stirup leggings.

I think Nina would like one too. Better ask her size.

  14. I guess I'm the worst case..lol, pony tale even during the night, only flat shoes and no make up at all oh and forget about bras..after only 6months of nursing there's nothing left to put into a bra(former 34 B and during nursing 36C)...I'm as flat as a pancake and really think about plastic surgery

  15. You go up a few sizes and have no need for clothes to go out "to the club" in anymore!  That is a change!

Instead of buying a hundred dollar dress, you buy a hundred dollars worth of baby formula and diapers (a 2 week supply).

Get all dressed up and then sit at home watching Maury while you get covered in baby spit-up.....it is too much fun!

  16. Completely!!!

It's terrible! I'm lucky if I get to shave every other week! If that!! I've managed to sqeeze into my prepregnancy jeans..well some of them....my hair is always up on top of my head...I've been known to go out in public without even brushing it bc I just pile it up and go...sooo bad...I only wear nursing bras now :( no s**y victoria's secret...none of my tops fit anymore so I've been known to go out in my husband's t shirts bc they are more comfy...flip flops and flat tennis shoes.....I used to never leave without painted toe nails and c**p...but I haven't painted my toe nails since having my son...there just isn't enough time in the day!! No more ear rings..not even studs bc my son is mezmorized by them...no more purses..I chunk everything into his diaper bag...I'm with Rosie and Betwixt.....I won't stoop to hand stiched lighthouse and birdhouse sweatshirts or sweaters, but it's deathly close! :(

*edit* I thought I should add this....I hit my lowest point a week ago when my husband and I were laying in bed and he said, "You know, honey...no offense...but pjs and tshirts allll day....that's not really s**y." So...I've been making an effort to actually get myself out of my 11 month slump (20 month slump if you count preg)...

  17. im not a mommy, im only 16 but i see perfectly fashionable woman on the streets wearing gorgy clothes (underneath them they are probably covered in scales but oh well =P) and my step mom still has alot of s**y feminine bras... that she leaves on the washing line everyday for all to see lol. (she has three children), just because your body changes a little for a while doesnt mean that YOU have to change. Your still the same person. =)

  18. From 1am having a margarita to 1am making a bottle of formula.

From heals to flip flops (all the better if you ask me).

You nailed it right on the head for me lol. Although, money is tight right now and the extra money we do have goes to my daughter or family day trips instead of the newest purse or new shirt/jeans. I wasn't big into fashion before my daughter but espeically now it's the last thing on my mind.

  19. Yes!!! lol.  Well right now, 4 months after having my son, I still have weight to lose...so I am not comfortable with my body and nothing fits right.  So for work.. I just throw on whatever.  I havent shopped in I dont know how long and I use to like every day!  I use to wear more revealing clothing.  Now I wouldnt dare.  I hate how my b***s look! My cleavage isn't the same. lol. I still have the same taste in fashion...but I toned it down a little.  I still like my outfits to be different and cute.  But I use to go all out.. and now..its not that big of a deal to me.  I was really big into fashion before.  Now I have more important things to deal with. :)  I'd rather my son have the best clothes then me!

EDIT: Yeah...I never had a stomach and now I do..its driving me crazy and still none of my old clothes fit me. Its depressing LOL.  I agree, I have thought about a tummy tuck & lipo after my next baby haha.  Doubt I would ever get it though!  Its nice to dream and have a good laugh.

  20. YES! Well not for to long. You'll go back down maybe not to where you were, but normal clothes will fit again and look right. I just had a baby 6 weeks ago and I sat and cried on my bed when I found my pre pregnancy jeans and LOL could only fit them past my knee. Keep hope go buy a few cute shirts and a pair of jeans and pay no attention to how big they are b/c with in the year you'll be getting smaller ones a few at a time each mo. Oh the hair I'm cutting mine like Victoria Beckham's today..CUTE short and easy. Perfect mom cut.

  21. I still wear my maternity jeans because I am afraid to go out and buy normal ones for the size I need. Afraid of trying on bigger size. Don't want to but I suppose I will eventually.

I never really did much with my hair. Still don't. Throw it in ponytails and am lucky if I get a shower every day.

I wear my regular bras. I wear baggy t-shirts. I sort of let myself go some. Too tired to care.

  22. well not for me . i still like to dress up like before and sometimes people dont believei have a daughter but that doesnt mean i dress like a teenager either but i still look pretty decen and no no no to momjeans and well i got out of my nursing bra as soon as i stop nursing . but i always do a sophisticated ponytails and get my hair done here and there .

But i dont wear stuffs that has way too much cleveage or shorts because of my strech marks . other wise nothing i can t wear . and huh i still shave . not so often but i dont let it turn into a bush either. and i still rock my heels . gotta keep up with hubby.

  23. My fashion sense wasn't all there to begin with.  I've always preferred comfortable, durable clothing and hairstyles over fashionable ones.  Still, I've made some changes since becoming a mom.

I took all my piercings out, mainly to avoid having them yanked out by a grabby baby.

Most of the clothes I wear now are at least two years old.  I very rarely buy anything new for myself, and if I do, it's at a thrift shop.  Also, my body shape has changed a bit since giving birth twice, so things just don't seem to fit right.

Shaving, well, that has gone all to h**l.  It's not uncommon for me to have hairy legs and shaved armpits, or vice versa, or I just say "s***w it" and sport the stubble all over.

But no, no, NO!!!  I will kill myself before I ever slip into a pair of mom jeans, or a collared sweatshirt with a birdhouse stitched onto it!

EDIT- Aaron's Mommy- I just looked at your link, and I'm still cringing.  Do those sweatshirts come with a free shotgun?

  24. i have an 11 week old and trying to figure all this out for myself.

skinny jeans arent for me but they werent before.

i still have a nice hairstyle, but most days its a ponytail. just fix my hair when i am going somewhere or having company and i want to dress up.

i feel so much better in nice bras. even when i was nursing, i would still wear a non-nursing bra. a little harder to manage, but made me feel so good.

i have only had one brazilian wax and while i will prob not do that again i do still "groom" myself. everday.

and i still put on make up almost everyday.

  25. I actually think Ive got better! I was afraid of being a frumpy mum , so I make more of an effort with my appearance than I did before!

  26. it did initially, then i went shopping these past few weeks, and really picked out stuff that i would feel good in, not what i felt would be comfortable.   so i hope that will help me feel better about myself, and just feel more.. fresh and alive then the oh this will just have to do look.. haha we'll see if it hold up.. :-)
