  1. Bird bites hurt! If they feel threatened they can break the skin and you'll bleed. The only time my bird bit me hard like that was when I was invading his cage. He never bit me hard when he was out of his cage. If you want to tame him don't do it on the cage. Its his territory (which male birds are more likely to do that).

One of the ways I got my parrot to become more friendly with me was when I gave him treats. First I used my two fingers to hold a treat and offer it to him, then after awhile, I put the treat in the palm of my hand. Once he begins to trust you, he should have no problem taking the treat out of an open palm.

  2. Yes, of coarse, Parrots, Lorikeets and parakeets can inflicked a nasty bite. My 2 Lorikeets will bite you and make you bleed, but 1 of mine is tame and won't bite at all. I suggest that if he is still a young one then you should start training him (10 minutes of  holding and talking and playing) (each day) also if you are not confident then you could wear some gloves.

  3. It can. I used to have parakeets and they bit but it didn't hurt alot. I now work with them and sometimes it can hurt but its not real bad.

  4. yes it will hurt especially when it breaks the skin and bleeds.

  5. I used to have the same problem with my little budgy, if his beak it not filed it will hurt a bit because they hang on to your skin, whatever you do don't panic and try to shake him off. Make sure he has a cuttle bone and maybe a sand covered perch so he can rub his beak on it, if it's filed it will just pinch a bit, like fingernails, but you have to remember to show him who's boss, they have a very big ego and will take advantage of your fear. Try scratching the back of his neck, birds love that and he will be your friend in no time.

  6. Yea it hurts, I used to work at a pet shop and people would let the birds get out of the cage, I went to pick it and it grabbed ahold of my thumb and it would not let go.

  7. Not to much  My Cockatiel draws blood when i try to touch her But is like a machine   gun with kisses  In the morning  and when i get home

  8. Oh yeah. Is a parakeet the same as a budgie? I thought they were bigger. Anyway - budgies aren't too bad as they are so small but they can still draw a little nip of blood if they give it a good chomp. You can see the warning signals though.

Put your hand face down toward him, holding the index finger out. Slowly does it... As you get closer he will either, lean his head down slowly (to bite you), hop on your finger, or fly away frantically looking for escape. Be patient. If you jolt your hand away in a fright HE will be more frightened and less trusting. If you are really wary it helps to close your eyes and brace as though for a needle - if you expect it you wont get such a fright. They tend to be scared of gloves and sleeves etc but sometimes I have worn thin gardening gloves and this has helped as I am less scared and they arent too scared as long as the gloves arent real bulky

  9. The one i had sharpened her beak a lot so it really REALLY hurt. In fact one of my friend's budgies (parakeets) made him bleed. However they don't tend to bite really hard unless you p**s them off. Sometimes they nibble on your clothes and your ear but that's just its way of showing how much it loves you.
