I've never looked into horoscopes or birth signs or whatever you want to call it.

I'm a leo male, what characteristics would a leo guy usually have, I want to see if it's true.

i'm not sure why but i do think that the signs match the person. Leo are warm of spirit, eager for action and are driven by a desire to be loved for what you bring to others.
