  1. Height isn't really an aspect when it comes to tennis I don't think. It's about speed, agility and power. Just look at the physiques of the different players. The Williams sister's dominate because of  their muscular physiques.

  2. speed, anticipation and intelligent judgement plays a major role in the tennis game. one has to be agile and must have good presence of mind. disadvantage could be while serving but with practice one can overcome this too. there were many short players who have won grand slams.

  3. short height has both negative and positive effects ---

    Positive

As the height is short ... the ball is going to travel very close to the net and the ground .. so other player would have to bend tremendously to reach it and return it effectively.... so here is an advantage. At the net you will retrieve very fast because short players have very fast reflexes,

    Disadvantage

As you will be short tall pl;ayers will roll da ball which is very difficult for short players to handle.. the heght of the ball may be heigher than your.. in this case ur backhand may suffer and there will be alot of court couverage...

  4. Well, I think it's what you make it but the truth is that for things like the serve and groundstrokes you will be at a disadvantage, but that means you just need to work harder that's all.

The "lower" centre of gravity should make you better in the agility/movement department so just build a game around your strengths and weaknesses.

I know these points have come up before but nobody has come up with how to assess the situation and what to do!!

  5. in a way yes but look at HEnin she was 5'5. Well she's just one of the few successfull short women. She was the nuimber 1 tennis player

  6. Well If you're worried that being short won't make you a good tennis player I say you should do some research on Justine Henin.

  7. short does effect a person's game, but after a while when your speed and dexterity works to get use to a game (beginner takes 6 month to 1 yr) then u'll be fine

  8. Yes it does and many tennis analyst will talk about it all the time when comparing tall players against shorter players.  First off, shorter players can't deal as effectively against a topspin serve, which makes it go higher so you can't strike the ball as early.  Secondly, on your serve, a taller player has a better clearance over the net, as a shorter player doesn't have such a large margin of error to make it over the net, a taller player will be hitting the ball way up higher in the air.  Third, a taller player has a much larger wingspan than a shorter player which means they can reach those hard to hit angled balls easier.  But there are benefits to being shorter, which means you can get to the lower balls much easier, which keeps the strain off your back and knees as you don't have to work as hard to bend down.  I'd also have to say, that a shorter person is supposed to be slower than a taller person cause a taller person will have longer strides, but Justine Henin worked hard  and was one of the fastest players being at a 5'5" frame.

  9. It makes a big difference to the serve, because a short person cannot see as much of the serving area over the net, a tall person can serve from a much higher position, allowing them to access a larger area and therefore they do not have to be as accurate with the serve, they can be more confident with power serves.

  10. like with all different body types there are disadvantages which u can not do much about but there are advantages, for example, being short u tend to be quick off the ground, able to reach low, just look at zheng at this years wimbledon. i would say she is a perfect example of someone in a goliath surrounded environment, also justine henin.

  11. You could try table tennis. !!!!!!!

  12. there are advantages and disadvantages to being short in tennis......advantages are that you don't have to get as low because you are already low to the ground and you are more balanced because you have an equal center of gravity....however, you have to really work on your speed and fitness because your reach is not that of a tall person...BUT....look at justine henine!!!! she was like 5'4 and #1 in the world

  13. depends how short, you may get lobbed easier, or have to hit the ball high a lot of the time to get it over the net, but if you can use topspin and the slice then it is all good, so generally yes it does but there are shots, slices you can use to make you no so small
