Does being tall help with volleyball?

i am 5 foot 10 inches tall and in the 8th grade does hieght help for volleyball?

Yes! I mean you don't have to be super tall to play but its a definite plus and the coaches will pay attention to you! If you're tall then you'll probably be a good spiker and you'll be in front. I'm kinda tall and I'm a passer in volleyball.

Height helps alot and the taller you are the easier hitting will be.

yes..i think it's important.when i was in the 8th grade i was 5'11'' and i was an outside hitter. now i am 6'2'' and i am a middle hitter.

Yes, in a sense. If you are doing front row hitting, then it will definately help, although having a good vertical will make you even better. However, if you are a back row player, then it does not matter whatsoever. Like I said before, having a good vertical definately helps. I am 5'6'' and I am an outside hitter. If I did not have a really good vertical, there would be no way I could slam the ball down!

yes it does! it's an advantage :)

- you can serve a lot better

- you're most likely to always hit the ball over the net.

- your sets are probably really good.

wow! Especially for your grade, that is awesome. You would have a really good advantage when it comes to spiking and blocking. If you were at the back row, you most likely have a longer reach. I'm the same height as you and I play front row most of the time. So its really good for you if you're tall.

It depends. If you play backrow it doesn't make a difference. In front row it makes a difference though. It's better to be taller. And if you're a setter it might matter, it depends on your rotation and if you would play front row.

You would be a great middle blocker! (The person in the front row in the middle). You have an advantage because you can just spike the ball back over the net or block it easily when they try to hit over. Use your height to your advantage!! I'm sure you woud be a great volleyball player!! Good luck!!

it helps but that does NOT mean that short people cannot play and it definatly does not mean that if you are tall you will make the team, i am 5'3 and have been playing volleyball for 4 years...i was a starting outside hitter at for 3 years and just this year i switched to libero because i got sick of outside.... short ppl can play volleyball and its really fun because they dont expect us to be able to get up and block, but the definatly have to work harder, be in better shape than everyone else,  and be extremely determined!!!

Height is very helpful in volleyball. The front row reasons are obvious but there are reasons why being tall helps in back row too.

Taller people can move in further on serve recieve, giving them unique advantages. Since serve recieve is such a HUGE part of the mens game any advantage is nice.
