Benjamin Jackson Burnley IV was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on March 10, 1978. He is a very famous American musician. He is popular as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter for the music band “Breaking Benjamin”.

Benjamin Burnley spent most of his life in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. He was dropped out from high school when he was 18. After that he shifted to Wilkes Barre,Pennsylvania where he met former Breaking Benjamin bass player Jonathan Price and they became roommate. He then started teaching himself to play guitar by listening to Nirvana's Nevermind . He was the biggest fan of Nirvana and was his biggest influence. Burnley had earned lot money by playing cover songs as a solo artist under his own name "Benjamin" in many coffee houses before establishing Breaking Benjamin. He later made a music band with the name, "Breaking Benjamin".  Ben knocked over for imitating his lifelong idol Kurt Cobain and broke the borrowed microphone after doing a performance of a Nirvana cover. After the performance the owner of the microphone came onto the stage and said, "I'd like to thank Benjamin for breaking my f*****g microphone."

These days, Burnley is a recovering alcoholic. He has admitted in an interview with listenin.org that he had the desire to "drink himself to death." He has been diagnosed with Wernicke's encephalopathy because of excessive alcohol consumption. He says that he feels sorry for drinking a drop of alcohol and continues to suffer from the problems.
