  1. You use both your calf and thigh muscles when running and biking, but it depends on the distance you are going. If long distance running it would be anaerobic and same for biking. If you do a fast sprint or cycling sprint it would be aerobic.

  2. well when you run you move your arms so i don't think so...

  3. Here's a great Youtube describing the muscles used in running:

There wasn't one for biking, but he muscles most used in cycling are those of the buttocks, thighs and calves.

    For running, quads calfs.

  4. Not too sure of the muscle groups involved, but the activity of cycling is considered to be an aerobic exercise (so is running), as opposed to a non-aerobic exercise.

That means roughly the muscles use oxygen to produce the energy needed to move the bike and the rider along or keep you running.

Again, as a comparison, in general running uses more energy (calories) than cycling, but of course it all depends on the distances involved.

When I use a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) I notice that my heart rate was relatively higher when running compared to moderate riding.

    Hope that helps.
