Does bipolar disorder cause supernatural fears?

Ok, here is something weird i noticed. When I am depressed i am always afraid of the dark and sometimes im afraid of going downstairs without turning like 3-4 lights on. I feel like there is some ghost in the house of whatever.

When I am manic I walk around in the pitch blackness of my house, its like its fun.. I would walk out my room and straight downstairs without doing those "i wonder if something is around the corner" checks.

Does bipolar disorder cause these types of fear or am i looking at schizophrenia?

  1. NO!!!

  2. Definitely. I am also bipolar and whenever I am in a manic episode, I am not scared of anything in the world. But in a depressive state, I think everyone is out to get me. I would suggest talking to your psychiatrist about increasing your medication and also looking into taking anti-anxiety pills because a lot of my fears come from anxiety.

  3. I am not sure but that's the way I am and I'm bipolar. It will be interesting to see what others say.

My opinion is this when you are manic you feel like you can do anything and are unafraid so maybe it would be the opposite when you are depressed?
