I just put my paint mare on black as knight, and was just wondering when I would begin to see results.

  1. I have used something similar and much cheaper than Black as Knight.  If you look at the ingredients, paprika is the main ingredient in Black as Knight.  So what I did was to go to the local grocery store and buy a large container of paprika for much cheaper than Black as Knight.  I just sprinkle a little on his food every day!

As for how fast it works, my horse's coat did not darken up until he got his winter coat, but the next spring and summer he stayed dark instead of fading to a really light color.

Try the paprika, its much cheaper!!!

  2. if you want to save money, you could feed 1 teaspoon of paprika plus 1/4 to 1/2 cup of black oil sunflower seeds (boss), 2x's day.  i've done this for a couple of horses, and results were seen at different times.  1 horse was within a week, but the other horses were within 2 weeks.  i believe it will depend on how they horse's body metabolizes the paprika and boss.

the paprika helps to darken the hair, somehow, but the boss helps to add shine, and strenth to hair and hooves.  also, the boss helps the immune system and hold weight.  if your horse is an easy keeper, watch how much boss you feed.

people also say that boss hype up horses.  i have not had this happen with my arabian or national show horse.  i think it'll depend on your horse, and the workouts s/he has.

  3. Just a precaution: if you planning on showing, Black as Knight will produce a positive drug test. I don't know what ingredient in it causes this,  but I've seen it happen to two competitors in the past.
