  1. A 1080i set will work but the picture will not be as good as a true 1080p tv. You will not be dissapointed with the picture and the picture will be far better than regular dvd on a 480p tv set.

  2. 1080i works. a 50" 720p set works just as well as a 1080p set also (assuming your not sitting ridiculously close to the set).

  3. The bigger question is: what will stop you seeing the difference between 1080i and 1080p TVs?

I rephrase the question because getting the best-quality picture means getting everything right, from the DVD to the placement of your chair.

Not all Blu-Ray DVDs are high-quality transfers. That means the movie itself is not recorded in a quality that can show you the difference between 1080i and 1080p. Some are *phenomenal*, some are average.

The player you buy has some bearing on the quality. Not every model will give you the best picture quality.

The cables you use to connect should be good quality. HDMI is best, but quality Component cables can provide an amazing picture too. (I have Component for my DVR, not my DVD player, and the Discovery Channel is still fabulous).

The TV itself needs more than 1080p. It needs size. A small HDTV doesn't have enough room to show you the difference in picture quality. A cheap HDTV doesn't have the processing power inside to display moving images well enough to justify the extra lines on the screen.

You need to have a big TV and be sitting reasonably close to tell the difference. If you've got a 42" on the other side of a big room, your eyesight probably can't tell the difference. As the HDTV gets bigger, you can begin to see the difference. (Or, as you get closer).

    Hope this helps!
