Does braces hurt when you first get them on ??

hey i'm getting braces in september and i'm having 2 more teeth removed that will be 4 then !!

does braces hurt when they first go on .. i'm absolutly terrified !!

Okay dude, I'm not gonna lie and say that it doesn't hurt at all, but it's nothing to be terrified about. The dentist actually putting your brace on doesn't hurt at all. For the first few days, they hurt. Its not like a shooting pain, its just that your teeth are under a lot of pressure. it's kinda hard to eat for a little while and you might get a few ulcers until you get used to the brace. But its nothing that a pain killer can't take away, and after a few weeks you'll be used to it and it won't hurt at all.

Unfortunately they do hurt, and it's pretty painful. Eating is out of the question, except maybe soups, things you don't have to chew. When I had then I found that letting ice melt in my mouth helped to numb it, and of course some kind of OTC pain reliever. Be sure to ask your dentist about the pain and what you can do, there may be more solutions than when I had mine on...But remember ICE numbs the pain....Good Luck

Mine were sore for 2 days. I got an oral medication to help, and it really eased the pain.

the procedure wont hurt at all, just takes about an hour to do. it will begin to hurt a couple hours after done. try taking tylenol/mtorin before going in and throughout the day for soreness. i did not eat normal until about a week and a half later. i lived off of pudding, smoothies and mashed potatoes for that week. it will feel really weird at first, but you will get used to it, trust me!

as far as what to not eat for the two years, Id say just follow whatever your otho tells you, only he knows best!

i go get mine tightened tomorrow! this also brings back the soreness but it only last for a day.

yes your teeth will be sore. it's not like a shooting pain or anything it just feels like A LOT of pressure bc that's basically what it is.

Yes they do but if you have soup or eat soft food this can help but other than that take some painkillers remember pain is beauty xx

Yeah, they will hurt for at least the first week or so. And you will most likely be on a soft diet for at least the first few days. I suggest taking some Tylenol or Motrin before you go in each time you go to the orthodontist. It's not in the least bit terrifying though. Its actually kind of relieving that you are finally taking that next step to a beautiful smile. You'll be thankful in the end :D Good luck!

Well, i had braces and when they put them on at the beginning they don't hurt but when they put them on completely it hurts just a little bit. then for 3 days you cant really eat hard things like bread because when you chew it it will hurt you. you wont be able to bite apples or things like this. but you will get used to them.  when they put them on me, i didn't want to talk or smile because i though people will laugh at me hehe. i will give you an advice, don't take them off until the dentist says so or do so because when i had them on for more than 8 months i didnt want them anymore so i told my friend to help me take them of with some pliers :) it sounds funny and it was but it was very painful but i wanted to take them off so much that i didn't care anymore and after 2 months my teeth got back to what they were before and this was just stupid for me to do... but anyway don't worry too much about it :) Good luck

The pains nothing to be terrified about really. I found that there is some discomfort in the first week but its not a constant pain. For me it was only painful when pressure was applied to the teeth like biting on something hard so for the first week i ate soft foods. Though after the first week the pains all gone and soon after that your teeth are nice and straight! :-)

Braces hurt when you first get them. They will continue to hurt for about a week. Then you get used to them but every month you get them tightened and that hurts for a couple of days =[

They do hurt for the first few days, but nothing too major. They also hurt everytime they are adjusted, but the more its adjusted, the less it hurts each time. If you understand!!

EDIT: ihave braces now! They are fine!!
