Does brand new air conditioners have that "new car smell"?

We just got a new air conditioner installed in today and it's kind of hard to explain but you can smell how new it is (I'm asking because it's making me sick to my stomach.) Is that common when air conditioners are installed? Thanks :-(

Cars have the new car smell.  The AC shouldn't have any smell at all.  Ask friends to sit in front of the AC.  If they also feel sick, it's a problem with the unit.
