and psychological side effects? I asked earlier how long you should breastfeed because I saw a lady on TV breastfeeding her 8 year old. But, I am so curious as to what kind of long term effects this will have on the child. How about the child's independence? How does the child cope later on when breaking away from the nest?

  1. I think that once your child turns 1 year old, you should stop breastfeeding, at that age, they need to learn more independance, like feeding them selves, playing with others, etc.  Good luck.

  2. my opinion is that 2 is the age to stop  and if you want to check this out don't take any pills during breast fiding you will find out that you will not get your piriod till 24 months....

  3. The American Academy of Pediatrics states:

"There is no upper limit to the duration of breastfeeding and no evidence of psychologic or developmental harm from breastfeeding into the third year of life or longer."

  4. Well, I've read that the child usually just grows out of breastfeeding, but that stigmas associated with breastfeeding makes women stop by like 8 months old. So you can let your child decide or decide for yourself when enough is enough. I, personally, wouldn't breastfeed at all...but definitely not after they are 1. I saw that show with the woman who breastfed her 8 year old and it's creepy as h**l. I understand you want to bond or whatever, but there are other ways to bond with an 8 year old than whipping out a boob. Plus, they say it raises their IQ to be breastfed longer...it's just plain creepy to me though.

  5. well personally i dont know when to stop but two is getting a lot older and they should be able to handle it without doing it. they are getting older and they shouldnt need to depend on you that much. try letting it go.
