Question:

Does brushing your gums make them pinker

by  |  earlier

I brush my teeth everyday and rinse with mouth wash but they don't seem to be getting any pinker.

I go to the dentist twice a year to get my cleanings.

I cant get professionall help because my parents wont think it necessary to make my gums pink as long as my teeth are healthy.

I'm only 15 so...keep it simple please!

  1. Did you know that hard brushing damages the gums. As long as your gums are not swollen, puffy or sore more than likely your gums are the color they are suppose to be. Some people have darker gums than others.

Do not brush hard because your damaging the gums.  How do you clean your teeth? There is a website that teaches you how to properly clean your teeth.

Also never use a toothbrush that isn't a soft one, medium or hard does too much damage. Once the gums are gone they do not grow back. Be careful but get the plaque off the gum line, floss and brush daily.

  3. Hi,

First of all you need to understand why your gums get darker :

    1. Genetic predisposition. Maybe it runs in your family.

    2. As you age, you may notice slight changes taking place.

    3. On rare occasions, hormonal changes can increase the pigmentation.

    4. Of course, smoking will make your gums darker.

    5. Certain foods can also cause some changes in the color.

The only thing that you have control over are the eating and smoking habits. So, work on those, if applicable.

Brushing your gums unfortunately, WILL NOT make any difference. Instead, you will be rubbing your gums away causing gum recession.

    Hope this helped :)

  4. Dont brush ur gums. It might damage them.
