  1. A few years ago it was popular for runners to drink a cup of coffee before a race because caffeine will stimulate the release of fatty acids into the bloodstream. The athletes were counting on using the fatty acids for fuel, rather than glucose, "saving" the glucose for later in the race when it might give them a second wind.

  2. it will not make you run faster, and in my experience when ever i had caffeine prior to a game i always seemed to tire quicker, i don't know if it was the caffeine wearing off or maybe taking shorter breathes or expending more energy with all the increased things that happen in your body or a combo of all.

you can only run as fast as you can, caffeine will only make you a little more alert

  3. No. Not necessarily. Caffeine has been linked to higher metabolism in some studies. But if you are already fit, there is no study that linked caffeine with higher performance.
