Question:

Does car insurance go up for JUST reporting a claim?

I accidently backed into someone and damaged both cars. At the time, I didn't know what to do since the owner of the other car wasnt there (it was parked), so I called up my insurance and reported a claim. The owner of the car then came out and said it would be okay if we could just get a paint job done for her which we thought was reasonable. My question is, would my insurance rates inccrease for merely reporting a claim that was my fault, or would it only increase if I actually went through them to repair damages on both cars. Its a very new car (mine) so I figured reporting an accident would probably be the right thing...however, I'm concerned that my rates will go up now even if I take care of the expenses myself! :( Can anyone help? Thank you!!

  1. Unfortunately, yes you will see a raise in premium.  You'll have 1 point against you for being at fault for an accident.  Unless you have a policy with 'accident forgiveness'.  1 time only reprieve....
