Question:

Does changing my router help speed up transfer rates?

I have a 2wire 2700HG-B router and when I download things, it never goes more than 100mbps. If I buy a router, will it change my transfer rate or do I also need to change something in my pc hardware?

  1. routers don't regulate download speeds. you can only use one router on a network.

the ethernet card is topped out at 100mps

but that should not be a problem.

my dsl highspeed internet gives me 1500 megahertz download speed. using a 2 wire router and same ethernet spped.

i can download 60 mb in 6 minutes

  2. The router you have is a good router. You really don't have 100mbs connection - you do, but only to the router or other local machines!

The internet speed is well and I mean well below that! In most cases DSL will be only up to 10mbs. So your local 100 is at least 10 times the DSL speed!  Changing routers wont change that. The only way to get that faster is by buying faster service from the ISP.
