Question:

Does checking my credit score monthly affect my FICO socre?

I recently sent out a credit card application with tons of personal information on it and never received a card (It has been about a month since I sent it out).

With so many identity theft horror stories on the news I am feeling a bit paranoid that someone had stolen my application and has all my personal info. I want to call the credit card company to confirm that they got my application, but I misplaced the package they sent me. How much does it hurt my Fico score if I check my credit score every month?

Does anyone have any suggestion or know of a good free credit report site to go to?

  1. No.....you can check it a million times and it won't affect your credit....What does hurt is if you fill out a bunch of applications for new credit all at the same time, creating "hard" inquiries on your credit file...

  2. No, it does not. I attached some great info that all consumers should know. It will not only teach you about inquiries but also different things that have to do with financing and mortgages.

  3. No checking your credit does not effect your FICO score.

You are entitled to a free report from each agency each year.  It will not have your score, but you'll see if anyone is opening cards in your name.

Otherwise, any of the agencies offer some type of credit monitoring.. there is a monthly fee, but you can look at your credit a million times a day if you want to.  I had freecreditreport.com  (Ya I know.. it isn't actually free) but it was something like $15 a month.

    Good Luck

  4. www.FICSMYCREDIT.com

  5. No!

Checking your own score never ever affects your FICO score.

    it's your own file...so no.

You really dont' get free reports, and the ones you do only give you the report but no credit score is on the file.

you'd have to buy a "POWER SCORE" package on equifax site because the regular file doesn't have a score.

    Hope this helps.

  6. you get one free from each agencys yearly - you can purchase a plan to watch your credit report - and it can take 6-8 weeks to get the credit card - they have to process them
